£75 million Arsenal and Manchester United target reveals transfer talks about Ajax exit
Manchester United and Arsenal target Matthijs De Ligt has revealed he has talks to leave the Dutch giants, with the Premier League an option for him.
After helping Ajax reach the Champions League semi-final, beating the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus in the process, De Ligt has become one of the most sought after defenders in the game.
The 19-year old has shown great leadership, ability and is a physical specimen already, with the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester United all hoping to try and get a deal done.
Gunners boss Unai Emery may have one of the best attacks in the game, but his back-line has some serious issues and he needs a top-class defender like De Ligt to come in and protect Bernd Leno.
United are also in the market for a new defender having failed to get back inside the top four because of the clubs defensive issues, and are reportedly ready to meet the £75 million Ajax currently value De Ligt at.
De Ligt’s team-mate Frenkie de Jong has already agreed to join Barcelona at the end of the season for an initial fee of £65m, and now the powerful Dutchman has revealed he has held talks to leave the club.
Asked if he’d made his last appearance for the club, de Ligt replied on the Sky Sports website: ‘I don’t know yet. ‘There have been conversations, but there is still no agreement.’
Dutch legend Edwin Van Der Sar recently admitted that he will make the move to England or Spain in the coming windows.
“Frenkie de Jong is already a Barcelona footballer, while De Ligt I think will go to England or Spain,” Van der Sar told Sky in Italy before Ajax were eliminated by Tottenham from the Champions League.
De Ligt is destined to become a real superstar of the game and the club that manages to nail down his services will be getting a class act already, especially as he will develop in the coming years into the best defender in the game.
Solskjaer will have the backing of United to try and conclude this transfer deal, especially as he needs a nee defender or two and while Arsenal would love to seal a transfer, Emery knows his funds will be limited by the club and he may be priced out of any potential move.
It will be great to see De Ligt in the Premier League, and both clubs have a good chance of sealing a transfer deal.
