Umtiti on possible Arsenal move, Totti sends Emery transfer message, £80m move to be hijacked?
Here is a roundup of the latest Arsenal news from icfootballnews
Barcelona star Samuel Umtiti has laughed off suggestions that Arsenal made an offer for him during the summer transfer window.
With Emery looking to spend some serious money during the summer transfer window, there was some speculation in the media that the Spanish boss was seeking to add some world class defenders to his squad, with Umtiti high up on the shopping list.
A knee injury, which required surgery, has seen the Frenchman lose his starting place to countryman Clement Lenglet, and reports suggested Barcelona were willing to allow him to depart the club during the summer window.
And reports even suggested that Emery was willing to spend around £50 million to try and secure a deal for the Barcelona defender, after the Spaniard admitted that he is interested in potentially signing the defender.
However, in a sit-down interview with Canal Football Club on Sunday, Umtiti was shown a clip of old Lyon teammate Alexandre Lacazette trying to set up a reunion at Arsenal, but only burst out laughing at the idea of a move to Arsenal
‘Honestly, I don’t know where this rumour with Arsenal came from,’ he said in response to the video.
‘Overnight, I received messages from my friends saying, “Ah, so you are joining Arsenal?” I’m not, I’m sorry but I’m staying at Barcelona.’
Roma legend Francesco Totti believes on-loan Arsenal star Henrikh Makhitaryan will have a big impact on the side this season.
Unai Emery has transformed the feeling around the club with a number of exciting and talented signings during the summer transfer window, but he still has some work to do with some of the players that were already at the club.
Armenia international Mkhitaryan has endured a mixed spell at the Emirates since being involved in a swap deal with Alexis Sanchez from Manchester United last year, as the 30-year-old has struggled to perform consistently for the Gunners.
But despite the fact he has been unimpressive in Arsenal shirt, he managed to get a starting spot in the opening Premier League fixture for the Gunners, although his performance was once again not that impressive.
And on transfer deadline day, he managed to secure a move to Italian giants Roma in order to try and rejuvenate his career, a move that may become permanent after he admitted that he may not return to Arsenal.
He is still yet to make his debut for Roma, but when it comes, Totti is certain he will impress. ‘Mkhitaryan can bring quality and quantity, so it’s a good move,’ Totti told Sky Sports Italia, via Football.London.
‘He hasn’t always played regularly over the last two years at Arsenal, but I hope he can feel at home at Roma.

Chelsea could reignite their interest in Wilfred Zaha if they manage to get their transfer ban overturned before January.
Chelsea are reportedly making contact with players’ agents as they plan for a busy January transfer window in the hope that their current ban is lifted, as the the Blues expect the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to cut short their transfer ban, which was imposed by FIFA in February.
It will mean that Lampard will be able to delve into the clubs transfer kitty and add a few players to the squad that will add some experience, and quality in the right areas of the pitch.
And one man that could be signed by Chelsea is that of Zaha, according to the Daily Express.
Zaha has been in the transfer headlines all summer as a number of top clubs have been linked with a possible move ever since he admitted that he is eyeing up playing at the very top of the game.
But it is Arsenal who have shown the most interest in a potential deal for the winger and there has been constant speculation that Unai Emery was desperate to add another top-class winger to the squad and had targeted the impressive Englishman.
However, there is some talk that Chelsea may decide to make a move in the January transfer window to try and secure a deal for Zaha for next summer, as they are still unable to register players in the winter window, but could seal a deal for Zaha if their ban gets overturned.
It is believed Palace would be open to the idea of selling their star man in January, if the right offer arrives, with reports suggesting that Palace will not accept anything less that £80 million for the winger.
