Here is a roundup of the latest Arsenal news from icfootballnews.
There have been some silly silly reports which have claimed Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is in secret talks about a possible move to Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Signed by legendary boss Arsene Wenger just before he quit the club, Aubameyang has fast become a real folk hero at the Emirates and impressed in his first full season in the Premier League by netting an impressive 31-goals for the Gunners last season.
His impressive performances and goals could not help the club get back inside the top four or pick up some silverware, but with boss Unai Emery doing some great transfer business, the Gunners side looks more of a threat then they did 12 months ago.
And he has started this season in fine fashion with two goals in two games, with his opening goal of the season taking him to 33 goals in 50 Premier League matches making him the joint-fifth most prolific goalscorer after a half-century of games in the competition’s history.
The Gabonese striker is contracted to Arsenal until 2021 but the club are hoping to get him to commit his future beyond then by offering him a bonus if they finish in the top-four this season.
Yet Spanish website Defensa CentralDefensa CentralDefensa Central say Aubameyang has been talking with Dani Ceballos in private about what life at the Bernabeu is like.
As well as Ceballos, Aubameyang has supposedly been talking about Real Madrid with Mesut Ozil, as the German spent three successful years at the club between 2010 and 2013, helping them win the La Liga title under Jose Mourinho in that time.
Arsenal academy manager Per Mertesacker has labelled his former teammate Mesut Ozil a ‘genius’ but has told the German it is up to him to prove himself at the Emirates.
Regarded as one of the most gifted players at the Emirates, Ozil has divided opinion between fans for months now after agreeing a massive £350,000-a-week deal to stay at the club, with some believing he should be sold after failing to impress.
There was a lot of transfer speculation in the media over the summer window suggesting that he could be departing the club, but the Gunners decided to keep hold as nobody would meet their asking price, and they did not have the funds to find an immediate replacement.
Ozil has shown flashes of his undoubted quality during his six-year spell, and sked whether he understands Arsenal fans frustrations with Ozil, Mertesacker replied on the Sky Sports website: ‘Yeah because probably they don’t understand him.
‘I know how to take him and how to try to pinch him when needed. But ultimately it has to come from him if he wants to go to the next level. But he can deliver.
‘He loves playing football, it doesn’t come across so often. He is a genius in terms of what he can produce with the ball and you can see that in every training session.
‘He thinks he plays in the park, he can deliver that ball that no one else can deliver. He has got that magical sense.’
Per Mertesacker has backed David Luiz to ‘learn from his mistakes’ after a mixed start to his Arsenal career.
Despite spending some serious money during the summer transfer window and improving the Gunners side enough to warrant a good chance of getting Champions League football next season, Unai Emery’s side are still lacking serious quality in key areas of the pitch.
The Gunners slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Anfield earlier in the season with Mohamed Salah producing a sparkling display for the hosts, and highlighting the problems that Emery has to deal with in the coming months, while also showing just how big the gap between the two clubs are.
And the performances of Luiz in the early weeks of the season have led to many believing that Luiz will not improve the progress of the club, and could be a major factor in their chances of getting the club back inside the top four.
But Mertesacker thinks that the Brazilian will prove to be a good addition to Arsenal’s backline given time, telling Sky SportsSky SportsSky Sports: ‘I think he (David Luiz) will learn from his mistakes on the pitch, but he is very comfortable being at Arsenal,’ he told Sky Sports.
‘That’s what I have been seeing. So we are happy to have him. ‘He brings something different to the table right now. So I think he is able to learn and excel his level of being an Arsenal player.’
