Statement released on possible £350,000-a-week deal, Midfielder prefers Arsenal move,Emery offered Diaz, De Jong makes Gunners claim
Here is a roundup of the latest Arsenal news and gossip from icfootballnews.
Fenerbache have insisted they will not be making any move to sign Mesut Ozil from Arsenal this summer, as he is too expensive.
Ozil is one of the Gunners biggest players and one of the best number tens in world football, when he is on top form. But he has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past 12 months as his performances in an Arsenal shirt have not matched the wages he was given under Arsene Wenger.
It was no secret that Ozil was almost out-of-contract last February before Arsenal gave in and offered him a massive £350,000-a-week deal, especially as they literally just let Alexis Sanchez leave for Manchester United and did not want to lose another big named player.
But since then his performances have been inconsistent and he has been heavily criticised for his work-rate, even being dropped by current boss Unai Emery for the big games of the premier League season, with many ultimately claiming that he could be sold this summer.
And that led to speculation that Fenerbache had opened talks with Arsenal about a possible deal for the German midfielder.
However, Fenerbahce have now moved to downplay reports of an impending offer, conceding they don’t have the funds to sign Ozil, with a statement from the Super Lig side read on the Daily Express: ‘Mesut Ozil, with his career and standing, successfully represents our country abroad.
‘He is an important value known with the identity of Fenerbahce. ‘However, Fenerbahce does not have a proposal for Mesut Ozil. ‘Under the current economic conditions, such a step is not possible for both parties.
‘Our president, Ali Koc, made statements on the subject in the WinWin program held on June 20 and emphasised that this could not be realised in the short term.’ Ozil is Arsenal’s best paid players on a £350,000-a-week contract, a deal he signed in January 2018 after relentless transfer speculation linking the German with an exit.”
Mario Lemina has suggested that he would prefer a summer move to Arsenal rather than one to Manchester United.
This transfer window has been a very frustrating one for both United and Arsenal, as they have so far been unable to acquire the type of players that would help improve the squad.
Arsenal remain in the market for midfield reinforcements this summer following the departure of Aaron Ramsey to Juventus and have been linked with Southampton’s Lemina.
It is believed that the Saints are willing to let the midfielder leave this summer for a fee of around £15 million, which is a few million less than what they paid to acquire his services a few seasons ago.
And he has suggested that he would willing to join the Gunners this season, when he was asked if he would prefer to join a club in the Champions League, Lemina replied on the TalkSport website: ‘It’s a bonus. If I have the opportunity to play this season, why not, but I’m really trying to regain consistency, become an important player in a team with high goals.
‘I need to play. That’s really my priority. I want to show everyone what I can do.’
He added: ‘It’s sure to be a very interesting championship, ‘The best for me would be to stay there, but I do not close the door to any club or country. Today, after four months of injury, I do not target anything in particular. I aspire to play for the biggest clubs, now we will see what I will be offered.
‘I had chosen to leave Juventus for Southampton to have more playing time, I got it. I made a good impression in England, I had good returns at a certain time, so I hope clubs will not have a short memory!’
Former Ajax star Frenkie de Jong thought he would follow in the footsteps of Marc Overmars by playing for Arsenal before joining Barcelona.
After helping Ajax become one of the most talked about side in Europe last season, helping the Dutch giants regain the League title and helping the club reach the Champions League semi-finals, a number of first team players are expected to depart the club this summer.
But one name that has already left the club is that of 22-year old midfielder De Jong, who signed a five-year contract at the Nou Camp after Barcelona paid Ajax £67million for his signature.
The midfielder was seen as the catalyst for all the fine performances of the Dutch side and is tipped tp be the perfect replacement for Sergio Busquets or Ivan Rakitic at the club.
But upon agreeing a move to Barcelona, he has admitted that he didn’t envisage it happening this way, as he saw himself following Overmars and playing for the Arsenal.
“In my mind I have had the following list for a long time: Ajax-Arsenal-Barcelona, call it the Marc Overmars route,” De Jong told Voetbal International.
“But then again, if you can go directly to Barcelona, then you are right where you want to be. Faster than you ever dared to dream.”
Arsenal boss Unai Emery has reportedly been offered the opportunity to sign Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz.
It is no secret in the media that Emery is still keen to splash whatever cash he has in the budget to improve the midfield areas of the Arsenal side, especially since Aaron Ramsey left for Juventus at the end of last season.
And that has led to so much speculation in the media linking the Gunners with a number of midfielders, with some of those stars all priced out of a move to the Emirates.
But now another name has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates this summer, with Madrid reportedly offering Diaz to the Spanish boss for a tiny £18 million.
With an allocated £45million transfer budget he has been restricted as to which players he can target, and as a result Emery could be tempted by Real Madrid’s offer of Diaz, according to the Daily Express website.
Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has been overseeing an overhaul of his squad as well this summer and has deemed Diaz surplus to requirements at the club.
Now Diaz is a man that has failed to live upto expectations in the game and it is very easy to see just why they have started offering him out to clubs like Arsenal, who have been linked with a move in the past.
