Italian opens up and announces Arsenal ‘have contacted’ agent to get deal done after price set by Portuguese giants

Arsenal, arthur

Arsenal have been told to pay £12.8m for Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares this summer transfer window.

Arsenal are once again in the transfer headlines after news in the media claimed that Mikel Arteta would get around £200 million this summer to improve his squad.

Arteta knows that he needs to get Arsenal back into those top four spots next season and Champions League football, as he had a very disappointing campaign this time around.

And According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have been in contact with Tavares’ agent.

He Tweeted: ‘After Napoli and Lazio, also Arsenal have been in contact with Nuno Tavares agents. Benfica are asking around €15/17m to sell the Portuguese left back’

But after left-back Kieran Tierney signed an extension, Arsenal will take a calm approach in their attempts to sign Tavares, but they are reportedly willing to pay the asking price for the talented full-back.

Mikel Arteta is at one of the biggest clubs in world football and should be challenging for big trophies, not just those top six spots. So they will need to splash the cash and make sure that they sign players that will make a real difference to the squad.

Tavares is a very good player that would help improve the squad of the Gunners, so if he is being signed for that reason, then yes he would be a very good addition to the squad.

It will be interesting to see just who the Gunners sign in the transfer window and if they manage to win the race for Tavares.

Arsenal’s final position was certainly “disappointing,” but their results improved dramatically after Christmas. Over the latter half or more of the season, they had the second-best record in the Premiership, after only Man City. The general pessimism is quite overblown.

I look forward to some nice additions, but after a period of adjustment, I think the side will shock its many doubters.
