Bye Bye Lucas? Gunners legend Parlour has worrying Torreira message for Arsenal fans
Ray Parlour has claimed that Arsenal may be powerless to prevent Lucas Torreira from leaving the club this summer.
Now that the transfer window has opened up, there has already been a lot of transfer talk about whom Gunners boss Unai Emery could acquire and help get the club back challenging for the Premier League titles and playing Champions League football.
But one of his summer recruits from last season has taken the headlines over the past few days after opening up about his future plans after Arsenal, with Torreira hinting that he would be open to the idea of making a quick return to Seria A.
The Uruguay international has become an integral part of Emery’s plans this season, with many believing he is one of the best buys of last summer’s transfer window.
It’s understood C Milan’s new manager, Marco Giampaolo, has identified Torreira as his ‘dream’ signing after working with the Uruguayan at Sampdoria, and legend Parlour believes Unai Emery will hold discussions with Torreira over his future, with the club reportedly preparing for a bidding war in the coming weeks.
‘The players have got all the power these days, I must admit,’ Parlour told The Daily Star.
‘I think that sometimes the family doesn’t settle, but we’ll have to see with that situation.
‘He’s a good little player, but he felt the pace towards the end of the season and dropped off a little bit.
‘He had a really good start to his Arsenal career and looked a really lively character, which we’ve been lacking. ‘But again, as a manager and club, you’ll sit down and find out why he’s not enjoying it.’
Now Arsenal fans should not worry too much about the words of Torreira, as the young man still has a very long contract at the Emirates and still has many years of playing at the very highest level left in him.
He has been a great buy from the club and will continue to develop into one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League, he just needs the back-line to be sorted out this summer so he doesn’t have to do cover all the mistakes of his team-mates.
So even though he has hinted at a move, it will probably not happen.
