Arteta told target Ryan ‘has been told he can leave if a club’ as two stars interest Arsenal boss
Arsenal are looking to sign another goalkeeper after Alex Runarsson proved that he is not good enough for the club.
After the end of last season, Arsenal made the big decision to let the impressive Emiliano Martinez leave the club to join Aston Villa, despite the fact that he had just helped the club regain that FA Cup crown.
He has gone on to become one of the very best stoppers in the Premier League, while his immediate replacement at the club, Runarsson has gone on to prove that he is not good enough to be back-up, or even challenge current number one Bernd Leno.
Alex Crook of TalkSPORT says that Mikel Arteta wants to get rid of the Iceland international and replace him with another capable goalie, and has claimed that Arteta is considering a bid for Brentford’s David Raya and potentially Brighton stopper Mat Ryan.
Crook said: “Arsenal let Emi Martinez go to Aston Villa at the start of the season and it doesn’t look the wisest of moves now.
“Alex Runarsson who came in to replace him as back-up to Bernd Leno just isn’t up to the job, and I think Mikel Arteta has realised that after his error-strewn performance against Man City in the Carabao Cup.
“They’re willing to let go out on loan, but of course they will need to bring in some kind of replacement.
“I know Mikel Arteta remains a fan of David Raya at Brentford, but I’ll be surprised if they let him go in this window – possibly that could happen in the summer.
“I wonder about Matty Ryan down at Brighton. He’s lost his place in the team and has been told he can leave if a club comes in for him.”
It is very clear that Arsenal made the mistake letting Martinez leave the club, but he had no desire to be number two and wanted to be a number one, which he is over at Villa.
Raya and Ryan are two proven stoppers, so lets see who the club eventually try and sign
