Arsenal told 27-year old potential exit would be an “acceptable sacrifice” to make

ARSENAL letting Leandro Trossard leave would be an “acceptable sacrifice”, but he should not be sold this summer unless a replacement is brought in, Charles Watts has told Sports Mole.

Arsenal have been very busy this transfer window and added some great players to the side, with Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Maduake the latest names to make the move to the Emirates and join that attack.

That has led to reports in the media that the likes of Trossard could leave the club this transfer window as Mikel Arteta wants to make some space in the side and add another versatile attacker to the side.

However – amid all the speculation and rumours, Watts has said that Trossard should leave only if a replacement is already signed: “I look at that left eight position especially. It’s not that creative, the options they’ve got there.

‘Declan Rice, brilliant player. Not the most creative player, turning more and more into a box crashing midfielder, which is great, scoring lots of goals. But creativity wise, aside from set pieces, not brilliant. Same goes for Mikel Merino. But a real mercurial playmaker type player to have as an option in that position, Arsenal just don’t have that.

“So they can’t really change games or there’s not really any sort of unpredictability there. It might take a sale – it might be that Leandro Trossard has to go to for that to happen, which as much as I don’t really want Trossard to go, if it’s a case of Trossard has to go for Eze to come in, then that’s an acceptable sacrifice.”

Speaking last season, Arteta described Trossard as ‘a bit of a moaner’ but insisted the Belgium international is ‘a really good character’ in his Arsenal squad.

‘Leo, naturally, is a bit of a moaner but I like that because he’s very competitive. When you have training sessions, he’s always busy with the referee’s decision, because he wants to win. That’s what I love,’ Arteta said.

‘He always wants to be the best and when he’s not there, he’s not happy. But that’s what pushes him. That’s where he comes in the pitch, he can make an impact because he’s got that drive, that anger which says: ‘I’m gonna show you.’ I love that about him.

‘He’s a really good character. They all want to play. Always want to play. Leo has shown a lot more consistency in the last 12 months, he’s deserved that. He’s had a lot of competition in his position. That’s it. Raise the level. If he plays at that level then he will play like anyone else.

‘He has the capacity to do something special in the final third.’
