Perfect Emery signing? Arsenal should complete £100 million Koulibaly transfer deal
Arsenal should make a move for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly, and beat off their Premier League rivals in the process.
Centre-back Koulibaly is much sought after and has been linked with a move to Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid over the past few months after impressing on a number of ocassions for the Italian side, who currently value him at £100 million.
Arsenal were keen on the Senegal international last summer but a deal failed to materialise as Unai Emery did not have the required funds to complete a deal for the Seria A powerhouse, especially as he spent all his money on the likes of Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira and Sokratis.
However, Kouliably is expected to depart the Italian giants this summer with Napoli prepared to sell if the £100 million valuation is met, and if Arsenal can get back inside the Champions League, they may have some more funds to play with.
Emery will see his Gunners side face Chelsea in the Europa League at the end of the month to become European Champions and book a place in the Champions League next season, which would mean that the board are willing to hand him more than £70 million in the window.
Arsenal know they need to start spending the big money and signing the kind of world class players that their rivals are currently acquiring if they have a chance of picking up the Premier League in the next couple of seasons, and Koulibaly is one of those players.
He is a physical force at the back and playing alongside Sokratis, they could be a dominant pair at the back for the Gunners.
However, it will all come down to whether or not Arsenal are looking to add quality or quantity to the side over the next few months, as Koulibaly will command a massive fee and a big time wage.
But if they are serious about getting back to the very top of the game under Emery, then they need to back the Spaniard and give him the £100 million-plus he needs to sign world class players.
Arsenal should try and make a move for Koulibaly, he would improve the back-line immensely.
