Perfect Saka replacement found as Arteta to sign impressive left-back Tagliafico for Arsenal

Arsenal are chasing Ajax star Nicolas Tagliafico in a £20m deal – as Mikel Arteta searches for a new left-back that could replace Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal have been in the transfer headlines alot over the past few months as indications suggest that boss Mikel Arteta is keen to spend some serious money and improve areas of the back-line ahead of next season.

And despite being impressed with kieran Tierney, Arteta is reportedly looking to bring in a new left-back to the club, with the impressive Tagliafico on the shopping list of the Arsenal.

Ex-Arsenal boss Unai Emery was keen on trying to sign Tagliafico last summer, but could not get a deal done as Ajax did not want to lose too many of their star names after a tremendous season back in the big time

The Argentina ace, 27, has evolved into one of Europe’s best left-backs since joining the Dutch giants from Independiente two years ago and He has been watched by a number of clubs over the last few seasons, including Chelsea, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

The Gunners are understood to be keen on a left-back this summer, according to reports on the Sun, to allow Bukayo Saka to move naturally further forward, with reports suggesting that Tagliafico is is open to a move to the Emirates, and believed to want to test himself in the Premier League next season.

He recently said on the SUN: “It’s always been my goal to play in the best competitions, at a top club.

“Ajax is an amazing club but the Eredivisie is not an amazing competition. One should always have bigger dreams.

“I’m still working on my fitness. I need to be as fit as possible in case I’ll move to a new club.

“The pre-season will start in August, so two more months. But if I’ll leave, it’s still uncertain.”

Look, Arsenal do need to improve in areas of the pitch, but there was no point in signing Tierney last summer if they are going to try and bring in another left-back this summer, he needs his chance.

Tagliafico is a very good player and has proven that at the very highest level, but his fee will be huge, his wages will be huge and Arsenal would have to compete with the likes of Barcelona, so it will always be a battle.

If he moves it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
