Arsenal target Herrera confirms and announces Man United with message to fans
Long-term Arsenal target Ander Herrera has admitted that he will be leaving Manchester United at the end of the season.
Despite being an integral part of the United side over the past few seasons, Herrera could not come to an agreement with United over a new deal and has been free to speak to clubs about a possible move away since the January transfer window.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for the Spaniard, as Gunners boss Unai Emery is keen to improve his midfield and replace the departing Aaron Ramsey and was reportedly ready to try and take Herrera to the Emirates.
However, they could not convince Herrera to leave United for Arsenal and reports in the media have suggested that he has now agreed a move to sign for French giants PSG.
And after confirming he is leaving the club, Herrera has sent his goodbye message to United fans.
He was quoted on the Sky Sports news website: “There is red in my heart, I knew it from the first time I played here and in the moment that I started to wear it. A club with thousands of fans that respect and remember all the players who give everything.
“I felt special when I heard my name chanted. I felt proud when the fans decided I was part of this incredible history. Every time I represented this club, in every game, in wins and losses, even when I couldn’t help from the grass, I understood what this club means.
“I am going to remember each of the almost 200 matches that I have played with this jersey because playing for the greatest club in England has been a true honour. Thanks for these five amazing years!”
Herrera has been an under-rated player at Old Trafford for many seasons and losing him will be a massive blow for United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who will now need to splash the cash and find an adequate replacement.
He could have been a great signing for Arsenal, so the Gunners will be disappointed to hear that he has agreed a move to PSG.
