Arsenal Thursday! Lozano transfer message, Mata confirms contract talks, Martial-£45 million contract, Torreira mesage
Here is a roundup of all todays Arsenal news, gossip and transfer rumours.
There has been some fresh reports which have claimed Manchester United are preparing to offer Anthony Martial a new contract worth £45m a year.
The 22-year old Frenchman has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past 12 months, with constant speculation that he is all set to pack his bags and leave the club.
Martial had been heavily criticised by boss Jose Mourinho, and a number of former players, for his inability to put in decent performances on a weekly basis, with the Frenchman going missing at times when he is needed most.
And that has led to speculation that he could head to the likes of Arsenal, PSG or Juventus in the next transfer window, with the special one reportedly ready to use the funds and land a winger that suits his preferred style of play.
However, over the past few weeks Martial has shown just why United paid £50 million to nail down his signature when he was just a teenager, and it seems that his latest run of form has convinced Mourinho that he now wants the Frenchman at the club.
The Sun Website has now claimed United are ready to open talks with Martial over a new contract which could be worth around £45 million, with add-ons and bonuses. (Read full article)
Spanish star Juan Mata has revealed he is now in contract talks with Manchester United, amid speculation Arsenal are interested in a deal.
Mata’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season and the Spaniard could leave Old Trafford as a free agent at the end of the season, with Gunners boss Unai Emery reportedly ready to hand him a switch to the Emirates.
Emery and Mata have worked together during their Valencia days and although the Spanish midfielder is coming towards the back end of his professional playing career, the Spaniard has the creativity and quality to add something to the Gunners side.
But Mata, who joined United from Chelsea for £37.1 million in 2014, has revealed that he is currently in discussions with the club over extending his deal.
‘I am very happy in England, my contract is up in the summer, and I’m in talks with Manchester United in order to see what happens,’ Mata told El Transistor after United’s win over Juve.
Will Emery keep a close eye on United’s talks with Mata? Here is what we think.
Mata is experienced enough and hood enough to give the Gunners that little edge in big games, something the likes of Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan has failed to do over the last few seasons, so Emery may be a little disappointed to hear that Mata is in talks about a potential new deal at Old Trafford.
However, Mata will be looking to get reassurance from Jose Mourinho that he will be a valuable member of the first team next season, as he is no spring chicken anymore and will not have too many more years at the very top of the game.
Contract talks mean nothing unless a deal is signed, and if Emery is serious about a deal then he will keep a close eye until an announcement is made. (Click for full article)
New Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira says it is “amazing” to hear supporters compare him to Gunners legend Patrick Vieira.
The little maestro arrived in the summer for just £26.5 million after weeks of speculation that he could in fact end up at the likes of Juventus or PSG after impressing at Italian giants Sampdoria.
However, after convincing the Uruguay International that the Emirates is the best place for him and his future right now, Torreira has made a stunning start to life at Arsenal and has been hailed as the holding midfielder that the club needed.
And Arsenal supporters are likening their summer signing to one of their greatest-ever players, something Torreira has welcomed, telling Sky Sports: “If the fans are comparing me and my game to Patrick Vieira, that’s amazing. It makes me very proud but I need to grow a bit before I can be as tall as him!”
“But he’s an amazing player, I remember getting up in the mornings in Uruguay to watch him. I feel very happy and am looking to help the team.
“I’m trying to improve as a player and do what’s best for the team. Right now we’re doing very well so it’s just about doing that.” (Click to read full article)
Lozano was hugely impressive for Mexico in the group stage of the showpiece tournament in Russia, and has attracted a lot of interest from the likes of Barcelona, Juventus, Arsenal and Liverpool in the last few months.
But with Gunners boss Unai Emery still looking to improve his squad, he has been eyeing up possible deals which would improve the attack at the Emirates, and already made contact with the representatives of Lozano about a possible transfer deal, reports have claimed.
However, Lozano has admitted that he would be interested in signing for United in the coming transfer windows, as speculation continues to grow that Jose Mourinho is desperate to add another forward to the front-line in case Anthony Martial rejects the £45 million rated contract offer that will be placed on the table.
It is no secret the Frenchman is eyeing up a move away from Old Trafford after falling down the pecking order at the club, and Mourinho knows he must add in key areas if he is to challenge Manchester City for the title.
The highly-rated winger has only recently signed a new contract to stay at PSV until 2023, but it is believed the Dutch giants would be willing to do a transfer deal for a sum of £25 million.
“I liked Manchester United a lot,” he told talkSPORT’s Universo Premier podcast.
“In Spain my favourite team is Barcelona.”
