Forget Ozil as Arsenal to re-open Banega talks and get £15 million deal done and dusted?
Fresh reports have claimed Arsenal are set to re-open talks to sign Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega, as a possible replacement for Mesut Ozil in the summer window
Ozil, who signed a massive £350,000-a-week deal last February, is heavily tipped to pack his bags at the end of the season and leave the Emirates after falling well down the pecking order under Spanish boss Unai Emery.
Emery has a new way of playing at the Emirates and the German, who has been criticised for his work-rate over the season, does not suit the style that Emery wants to employ and speculation has turned to whom he could potentially sign as a replacement.
And according to reports on the Football.London website Arsenal are still exploring the possibility of signing the Argentina international this summer and will look to re-open talks about a possible £15 million deal once the summer transfer window opens.
Emery was keen to try and wrap up a transfer deal for Banega during the January transfer window, and even opened up talks with Sevilla about a possible deal, But both clubs could not come to an agreement as the Spaniards did not want to lose on of the clubs biggest players half way through the season.
The pair won the Europa League together twice at Sevilla before Emery left the club for Paris-Saint Germain.
Arsenal already have a decent attack and losing Ozil will not stop that as the German does not have much of an impact on the side these days, so maybe Emery should focus on working on the back-line first as that is the reason they may not get back into a top four spot by the end of the season.
Banega is a decent player, but he is not the type of player that Arsenal need right now as the Spanish boss needs to forget about new midfielders right now.
It is no secret that Emery will be given limited funds and even though he spent £70 million on the defence last summer, it is still not good enough to get Arsenal challenging for a Premier League title.
Arsenal fans want big signings, but the right signings is what Emery needs and Banega is not the right type of signing this summer.
