Emery told to get deal done and bring £55 million Arsenal target Zaha to Emirates
Arsenal should go all out to sign Wilfried Zaha, former Gunner Kevin Campbell believes.
After a few years as a Manchester United winger, Zaha returned to Palace and reinvented his career to become one of the most exciting and attacking players in the Premier League.
That has led to much speculation that both Arsenal United were interest in taking him away from Palace during the January transfer window, before the London based club stuck a massive price tag on the wingers head and interest in getting a transfer deal wavered.
But Zaha, who has scored eight goals in an impressive 2018-19 campaign, is keen to test himself at the highest level of club football and start regularly challenging for trophies.
And according to reports, the Gunners are ready for a summer revamp under Emery and the Spanish boss would be willing to spend some of his transfer budget on Zaha this summer, with a fee of £55 million reportedly talked about.
Now Campbell has urged Unai Emery to complete this move, telling FootballLondon: “I would say Arsenal need to break the bank for Zaha. He’s got a proven track record in the Premier League. He can hit the ground running.
“He would be an excellent addition to Unai Emery’s squad and boost their attacking options. He would also create space for [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang and [Alex] Lacazette to run into in dangerous areas.
“He can carry the ball in transition and is a dangerous player. He would be my preferred option. He’s strong, he’s fast. He would settle in straight away.
“He can play wide left, wide right, through the centre and he’s still young at 26 years of age.
“He would be my man for the club to target first and foremost as an attacking option. I think he would be a superb addition to the squad. Yes he won’t come cheap but the fee would be paid in installments so it wouldn’t necessarily be £60m up front.”
Zaha is arguably one of the best wingers in the Premier League and brings so much more than excitement to the Palace side. So it was a massive surprise to see him sign a new five-year deal at the club as he is clearly ready for that next step.
Arsenal or United would be a great move for him, as they are in need of an attacking, exciting and skilful wingers to come in and give a different dimension to the side, especially as both clubs need to add some more width to the squad in the coming transfer windows.
Zaha is now ready for that big step at the top-level and needs to make the right move, or it will just be another United all over again and he will fail to fulfil the clear potential that he has.
