Forget Havertz – Arsenal told they should sign 21-goal Premier League star

ARSENAL have been told to forget about signing Kai Haverts and instead try to sign Ivan Toney.

Arsenal have been linked with a stunning move for the German star and have even made contact over a switch – although they are not prepared to meet the £70 million valuation.

Mikel Arteta is keen to improve his squad over the next few months and it has been claimed that the Spanish boss sees Havertz as someone he could use across that front-line.

Ray Parlour is not thrilled about the possible move, saying he would like to have seen Arsenal sign a more proven goal-scorer, somebody like Ivan Toney – who has been tipped for a big move.

Toney had a brilliant season for Brentford last year and broke the 20-goal mark in the Premier League – but his off-field antics has stopped the likes of Arsenal making a move this summer, as he will be out of action until January.

‘You need an out and out goal-scorer, if you’re Arsenal,’ Parlour told talkSPORT. ‘They’ve got so much good back-up play behind the striker, but they need someone to put the ball in the net.

‘For me, I don’t think that’s the right signing but obviously Edu and Mikel Arteta will be talking behind the scenes and thinking he can play here or there. There might be a plan for him.

‘Any player coming into any club, you’ve got to give them a chance. But for me, it’s a shame, I’d have gone for Ivan Toney but he’s obviously got that ban and whether they want to take a chance with that…but he would have been the obvious choice for me.’
