Ex-Gunners star tells Mikel Arteta to sign £60 million striker for Arsenal

Former Arsenal man William Gallas has said that he’d like the club to make a move for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins this summer.

Kai Havertz’s form improved towards the end of his first campaign at the Emirates Stadium in a false nine role, while Arteta will hope Gabriel Jesus recovers from the injury struggles the impacted his influence during the run-in.

Watkins was in fantastic form for Villa this season, breaking the 20 goal barrier in the Premier League and is now rated as one of the best finishers in the Premier League and a man that could lead that ARSENAL attack.

But with The Gunners are looking to strengthen their forward line before the end of the transfer window, Gallas has named Watkins as the ideal signing for the club – He told Genting Casino: “For Arsenal, I like Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

“He has the pace you need to have as a striker and with a player like Martin Odegaard in behind him it would just be magnificent, think of all the assists.

“It’s so difficult to defend against players like Ollie Watkins because he’s so clever with his runs, with Odegaard they would do so much damage. If I was at Arsenal I’d choose him.”

However – Ex-Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers star Stephen Warnockrecently told the striker to stay at Aston Villa this summer –  told BetVictor: “Ollie Watkins’ England prospects depend firstly on what Harry Kane does next and also on who comes in to replace Gareth Southgate as manager.

“He likes having that pressure on him to perform well. What he’s found at Villa is that Unai Emery has improved him as a player – he respects that hugely.

“He knows that working under Emery is the right fit for him. He plays in a system that suits him, which gives him opportunities to score and create goals.

“The difference now as well is that he’s likely to be playing Champions League football.

“If he goes somewhere else, he may not quite fit in, he might not settle and the new manager’s philosophy could be a different style of football.”
