Big decision! Arsenal ‘have held talks’ about £350,000-a-week Ozil January transfer deal
Fresh reports have claimed Arsenal have held talks with Fenerbahce about a January deal for Mesut Ozil.
Ozil is one of the Gunners biggest players and one of the best number tens in world football, when he is on top form. But he has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past 12 months as his performances in an Arsenal shirt have not matched the wages he was given under Arsene Wenger.
It was no secret that Ozil was almost out-of-contract before Arsenal gave in and offered him a massive £350,000-a-week deal, especially as they literally just let Alexis Sanchez leave for Manchester United and did not want to lose another big named player.
But since then his performances have been inconsistent and he has been heavily criticised for his work-rate, even being dropped by current boss Unai Emery for the big games of the premier League season, with many ultimately claiming that he could have been sold during the summer.
And it seems that his time at the club is pretty much over as he cant even make the bench for the Europa League games, as he was left out the side for the 4-0 hammering on Thursday night, leading to Emery suggesting that he does not deserve a place on the bench.
The Gunners boss has warned the World Cup winner that there is serious contention for places at the club and he must earn his place in the side, Emery said: ‘He can play how I want, but now we have a lot of players being competitive in each position on the pitch and they deserve to be able to help and to play.
‘Now every player is the same and I want to train, I want them to be pushing to achieve one position in the squad, in the first XI. ‘If we continue being competitive and getting better, it is the best for our present and future.’
Now Turkish publication Takvim have claimed that Arsenal and Fenerbahce have held talks about a possible deal for Ozil during the winter window, when he is finally expected to pack his bags and head for the exit signs at Arsenal.
Ozil is not the same player that he used to be and it is clear that he does not fit into the style of Emery at Arsenal, so even though Emery has suggested that Ozil will be staying at the club, the best thing for him and his future is surely to leave the club?
if the right offer does arrive during the January window, then Arsenal should seriously let the German star go.
