Keown message! Gunners fans warned after late Arsenal bargain transfer signing
Gunners legend Martin Keown has claimed that David Luiz could be a real problem for Arsenal after he completed his move from Chelsea.
Despite many months of speculation and rumours that Arsenal could be signing a top-class centre-half this transfer window, Unai Emery shocked the world and somehow convinced the board to make a move for Luiz.
Gunners boss Unai Emery had made it a priory to strengthen his defence during the summer window after he had seen his side finish fifth in the Premier League last season and conceded 51 goals in the process.
The urgency of finding another centre-back was important given the injuries to young defenders Konstantinos Mavropanos, who is receiving from a groin in jury and, Rob Holding, who has only recently resumed training on a knee injury, and the sale on long-serving defender Laurent Koscielny.
However, Keown feels the 32-year-old could actually be a problem following his exit from Stamford Bridge.
“I was concerned and I made my feelings known at the time,” Keown said on the TalkSport website.
“I felt that we’d be taking a problem from Chelsea. Frank Lampard was in that dressing room wasn’t he, and you could say it was a little bit toxic.
“[Maurizio] Sarri last year said they were difficult to motivate, and it looks like Lampard has weeded out David Luiz.
“Arsenal are then taking a player with a little bit of baggage.”
Luiz was an easy option for Arsenal and Emery and it could be one that could bite them in the ass, he is not the answer to their defensive problems and that was clear with some of his dodgy displays in a Chelsea shirt last season.
He was to be well down the pecking order at Chelsea, and he did not like that so that is why he forced through a move to Arsenal, and many will be hoping that he does not walk straight into that starting line-up as Keown is right and he could be a very problematic signing.
