Arsenal urged to sign defensive partner for Brazilian star Gabriel in summer
The Daily Star’s Ben Husband has urged Arsenal to sign a defensive partner for Gabriel in the transfer window.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was expecting big things from his squad this season, and fans were hoping that the side challenge for more than a top four spot. But that has not been the case.
That means that Arteta will need to strengthen his squad in the transfer window and improve that defence, which has probably cost the club alot of points and the chance to get back inside that top four spot this season.
And Husband reckons Gabriel will be a fixture in the Arsenal side for the long-term and Arteta just needs to figure out who would be his best defensive partner, Husband writes: “Gabriel has enjoyed a positive first season in English football, despite struggling with a few injuries throughout the campaign.
“There are signs he could be a fixture in the Arsenal defence for years to come, but alongside him, there are still major question marks.
“Pablo Mari, David Luiz and Rob Holding have all had chances, but an upgrade is likely to be on Arteta’s radar.
“Bringing another classy defender in to play with the Brazilian could set them up for the next few seasons.”
There is no doubt that this Arsenal squad need to improve in all areas of the pitch, but adding a top-class partner should be high up on the agenda for the Gunners. But with funds limited, it will be interesting to see just who they actually go for.
