Frenchman addresses rumours £80M star could sign with Arsenal
Patrick Vieira insists there is ‘no truth’ in reports that Arsenal are looking to complete a transfer deal for Crystal Palace winger Wilfred Zaha in the summer
Arsenal were very much keen to try and secure a transfer deal for the winger a few summers ago, and many in the media honestly believed that the Gunners were going to pay his massive asking price to get a transfer deal done
However, the Gunners didn’t quite believe that he was worth the money that Crystal Palace were demanding and As a result, Arsenal snubbed Zaha and signed his international teammate Nicolas Pepe for a club-record £72 million that summer
Pepe has shown flashes of brilliance during his time at the club, but he has never fulfilled his potential, which has upset many fans and pundits alike.
Arsenal made a big mistake signing Nicolas Pepe over Wilfried Zaha in the summer of 2019, but amid all the rumours they could be tempted again this coming summer, Vieira has addresses the latest transfer rumours
‘He has been linked after the [Arsenal] game?! There is no truth about that,’ said Vieira.
‘I believe Wilfried is an important player for the team, for the football club, he is a really good inspiration for the young players that we have.
‘He knows this club better than anybody else and when he is performing like that, you know you only want to keep your best players. And he is one of them.’
Zaha is always in the media about a possible move away from Palace – especially as he is one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League
He should have left a couple of seasons ago, he has become a bit stale at Palace – and his performances have been too inconsistent.
But if Arsenal do make a move in the summer, they will need to get him for the right price
