Arsenal sent transfer message about completing the signing of bargain £30M powerhouse

Arsenal have been told to avoid signing Ivan Toney this summer by former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy, as rumours still circle that the Gunners are still interested in signing the big Brentford forward.

Toney is a player that many of the big clubs have been linked with over the past few months as he is regarded as one of the best strikers in the Premier League, but despite all the speculation and rumours – nobody has made a move for the player.

It is no secret that ARSENAL are massive fans of the big man – but it has been claimed that he would not suit the style of that Arsenal attack and that is why Mikel Arteta has not yet sanctioned a move for the England star.

However – The Times claims his club Brentford have significantly reduced his fee as his contract runs down, and the Bees are reluctant to lose their star man for nothing next summer and will accept £30 million.

But Murphy believes it’d be a waste of resources, claiming on Talksport: “Who can they get that’s going to make them score more goals than they did last season? Let’s look at it realistically. Let’s say it was Ivan Toney.

“You are going to spend what on wages? Hell of a lot, right, and he is going to cost you to bring him in, a fee, whatever, let’s say you have got to pay £50 million? Then they have to pay his wages, so you are looking at £70 million.

“So, all of a sudden, you are bringing him in, what, to not start every game? Why would you spend that much money on somebody you are not convinced is going to be your main man?

‘I think if he didn’t start for six games and Arsenal won every one of them, he would be fuming.”
