Arteta admits he wants Man United target at Arsenal, Arsenal ‘have made offer’ to sign winger, Frenchman spotted at Emirates amid Arsenal speculation
Here is a roundup of the latest Arsenal news from icfootballnews.com
Mikel Arteta has opened up and revealed that he wants to keep Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the Arsenal this January.
The Gunners have been locked in negotiations with the Gabon’s representatives over extending his existing deal at the Emirates, which runs out in the summer of 2021, but talks recently stalled due to the uncertainty over Unai Emery’s position at the club and the fact the club are not competing at the top of the game.
Aubameyang signed for the Gunners in 2018 for a club record fee of £57m and the club believed Mikel Arteta’s appointment would aid negotiations, but, according to the Times, Aubameyang has informed the club that he wants to leave and will not sign a new deal.
The news has alerted a number of top clubs around Europe, including United, who were reportedly keen to try and nail down the services of the Gabon striker during the summer transfer window.
But when asked about the chance of a January sale, Arteta said on the Sky Sports website: “I don’t even think about that possibility with Auba, I want him here.”
Look, at the end of the day Arsenal need to keep hold of their best players if they are to get back inside the top four this season, and then push on to challenge for some serious silverware next year.
Reports have claimed Arsenal have made an offer to sign winger Thomas Lemar from Athletic Madrid.
Ex-Gunners boss Unai Emery went and spent a massive £72 million to acquire the services of Nicolas Pepe during the summer window, believing he had the ability to be a star at the Emirates, but that move has not worked out and the Gunners have now reportedly eyed up a possible move for Lemar.
The Gunners have previously been linked with Lemar, and he is a target this time around as Mikel Arteta wants to add a midfielder to his squad this month.
Atleti have already begun working with agents to secure the 24-year-old a move away from Madrid, with Spanish publication MARCA claiming that the Spanish giants have already received an offer from the Gunners about a possible January deal for the winger.
However, the reports goes on to say that the Spaniards have set a high asking price for the winger and Arsenal will most likely need to break their club record to secure a deal for the Frenchman.
It follows Arteta discussing Arsenal’s possible January business during a press conference on Thursday.
“We’re going to try to be in the market to see options that can strengthen the team, that’s for sure,” said Arteta on the TalKSport website.
“That’s our obligation and we’re going to be working on that.
“My obligation is to give my opinion on the things I think we can improve.
“Obviously we have a bad injury with Calum [Chambers] a few days ago that is going to change our plans at the back. But the reality at the moment is we’re not going to be able to do much.
“I’m more concerned at the moment to get people back from injuries than signings, and try to improve the players we have here and get everybody on board with what we’re trying to do.
“If something extra comes up and we think it’s the right opportunity let’s do it.”
Fresh speculation has arisen over the past few days after Samuel Umtiti, the Barcelona defender, was spotted at Arsenal during their win over Manchester United.
With Mikel Arteta looking to spend some serious money during the summer transfer window, there was some speculation in the media that the Spanish boss was seeking to add some world class defenders to his squad, with Umtiti high up on the shopping list.
A knee injury, which required surgery, saw the Frenchman lose his starting place to countryman Clement Lenglet last season, and reports suggested Barcelona were willing to allow him to depart the club during the summer window for the right amount of money
And reports even suggested that ex-boss Unai Emery was willing to spend around £50 million to try and secure a deal for the Barcelona defender, after the Spaniard admitted that he is interested in potentially signing the defender, but a move never materialised as he stayed put at the Camp Nou.
But with Arteta seeking to add at least two new defenders to the side over the next few weeks, there has been some speculation that Arsenal may once again try and tempt Umtiti into leaving Barcelona, especially as he was spotted during the game against the Red Devils.
Umtiti was spotted in the stands at the Emirates on New Years day as Arteta’s side put in an assured performance against the Premier League giants, although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side looked well off the pace against the Gunners.
However, https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7844681/Arsenal-target-Samuel-Umtiti-watches-Gunners-beat-Manchester-United-Barcelonas-winter-break.html say Umtiti is unlikely to join the Gunners as he focuses on challenging for LaLiga and the Champions League with Barcelona.
