Arteta reveals signings on way, Aouar update sent to fans, Auba reveals why he signed with Arsenal and Arteta on Nelson future

Arteta reveals signing on way, Aouar update handed to fans, Arteta on Nelson future and why Auba signed deal in Arsenal news roundup..

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed they are close to bringing in a new goalkeeper following Emiliano Martinez’s exit, with Runar Alex Runarsson seemingly on his way to the club.

Martinez was a revelation in the Arsenal side when he took over Bernd Leno just after the re-start of football, and his performances impressed many surrounding the cub and other Premier League outfits.

However, he was not guaranteed a regular starting spot at the Emirates and the Gunners made the decision to cash in on the stopper this summer, and he quickly made the move over to Aston Villa in a £20 million deal.

That means that Arsenal will be missing a back-up stopper to Leno, and they have made the decision to bring Runarsson to the Emirates in a deal that will cost the club no more than £10 million.

And In his press conference on Friday, Arteta has opened up and admitted that the club are very close to announcing a deal for a new stopper, he was quoted on the TalkSport website: “Obviously with the departure of Emi, which is a big loss and someone that we all wish the best, we have to replace him.

“We’ve been looking in the market and we will shortly be in a position to announce our new signing.”

Arsenal target Houssem Aouar could be out of reach for the Gunners, the clubs President has claimed.

The Lyon ace has been heavily linked with a switch to the Emirates, after a very impressive season with the French side saw him impress in the Champions League on a number of occasions.

And According to ESPN, the French youth international remains Arsenal’s top priority this summer with Arteta a huge fan of the player, with the report claiming that the ex-Manchester City assistant manager wants to build his side around the 22-year-old.

It has been stated that Aouar is keen to depart Lyon, with his future to potentially be resolved in the next two weeks, although Arsenal would have to pay some serious money in order to get get a transfer deal done.

But the French club’s president Jean-Michel Aulas doesn’t believe the North London side have the funds required to poach him this transfer window and is expecting the talented lad to stay put.

Aulas told journalist Chris Wheatley: “No I don’t think so [whether Arsenal will sign Aouar]…no offer yet, it seems that Arsenal don’t want to, or can’t invest the price for Houssem, who is our best player.”

Mikel Arteta has spoken about the prospect of Reiss Nelson going out on loan, and dropped a hint that he is staying at Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta knows that he has some very exciting talents at the club that could develop into real stars at the Emirates, even though he is seeking to add a bit more experience to the side.

The 20-year-old Nelson has been in and around the Gunners first-team squad for three years now, having made his senior debut in the 2017 Community Shield against Chelsea at Wembley, and is eager to make sure that he is part of the plans at the club.

Arteta has already recruited Brazilian forward Willian from Chelsea and has been linked with a number of other players as he looks to build a squad that can compete for further honours, and that has led to rumours that Nelson could be sent out on-loan.

Now amid all the speculation, Arteta has suggested that he wants the young man to stay this transfer window, he was quoted on the TalkSport website: “I think they all realise the competition we have in forward positions. I’ve already spoken with Reiss about it and I really like the way he’s training.

“I think we both agree about how much he’s improved in the last few months and he’s going to carry on pushing himself and the rest of the team.

“He needs to be ready because in football, unfortunately, or fortunately, things don’t take three months to change, it can take three minutes and you have to be ready when that opportunity comes.”

Mikel Arteta is not surprised that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang shunned interest from Barcelona in order to sign a new contract at Arsenal.

Aubameyang, with 72 goals for Arsenal to his name through 111 appearances, is already up and running in 2020-21 when he found the target in the 3-0 victory over Fulham on the opening day of the season.

But it could have been for another club this season if Arsenal didnt convince the hitman to stay and sign a new contract with the club, especially as there were reports that Barcelona had offered him a contract to leave the Emirates.

But after seeing his star man sign up, Arteta is not surprised that Aubameyang shunned interest from Barcelona in order to sign a new contract at Arsenal, he was quoted on Sky Sports: “I think a big reason why Auba is staying is because we have an incredible football team.

“We have some fantastic people working here and he feels the love from the fans.

“I did my part, explaining to him what we are trying to do, explaining to him how important he is going to be, what we are building. That’s it. The club has to take credit for that and all the people who put together this package for him to stay.

Arteta added: “The size of our club is as big as those names. The most important thing is the football club. What we aspire to be, and what we can achieve in the future.

“We must make sure that our players believe in our project.”

Arsenal signing up Auba was the biggest transfer deal that the club could have done this summer so now that he has, all the speculation can go away for another summer.

We have backed the wrong horse in selling Martinez. If we had to sell one it should have been Leno. Yes, he’s a good shot stopper – most of them are. But he cannot command his area. Too often he flaps at a high cross. He is not big enough nor strong enough. Martinez was !
