Arteta admits ‘were trying to get deals done’ after Italian reveals £64M Arsenal deal agreed

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta remained tight-lipped when asked about potentially signing Mykhailo Mudryk this month.

The 22-year-old has played 18 times in all competitions this season for Shakhtar Donetsk – and in that time he has scored 10 goals and provided eight assists.

Three of those goals, and two of the assists, came in the Champions League. Shakhtar did not progress to the knockout stages, but finished third ahead of Celtic to see them drop into the Europa League.

His performances for Donetsk this season has prompted the Gunners to make sure that he is a Gunner by the end of the January window – with all sorts of speculation that he has already agreed a move to the Emirates.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims the offer is worth a guaranteed £64million.

There is then thought to be another £18m-22m in bonuses on the table for the Shakhtar Donetsk ace.

But amid all the speculation – Arteta would not give an inch about his possible arrival to the club and continued to play coy on his possible arrival – When asked about Mudryk, Arteta said: “We cannot talk about any other players.

“There is some interest in things we’d like to do to improve the team, because we are a bit short in certain areas with the injuries we’ve [picked up].

“We are trying as a club – we are determined to try to improve the team in every window and that’s what we’re trying to do.”
