Arteta makes statement on latest Arsenal deal -Gunners sent firm transfer message – imminent arrival top signing for Arsenal

Here is a roundup of the top Arsenal news and gossip from icfootballnews that you guys could have missed today –

Ray Parlour has claimed that incoming midfielder Mikel Merino is a great signing for Arsenal.

The Gunners have been linked with so many players over the past few months as many fans expected the Gunners to bring in a few quality players to add to the squad, but so far only David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori has been signed by the club.

But it is widely expected that ARSENAL will look to add to that attack this transfer window – and Merino is a player that has been linked with a move to the Emirates over the past few weeks after his impressive performances in the Euros 2024 for Spain.

According to recent reports in the media , Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is said to be a big fan of him and is prepared to sanction a deal that would see the 28-year-old earn the most lucrative contract of his career, potentially double what is currently on.

And ahead of his potential move to ARSENAL an Speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show, Parlour said: “They’re looking at Thomas Partey, he might be on his way out, so they do need a little bit of strengthening in that midfield. It [Merino transfer] gives Declan Rice a little bit more license to go forward if you’ve got another holding midfielder in there.

‘I know he plays like that for England in that holding role, but I like to see Declan get forward. And as I’ve said before, I’m a little bit of an old-fashioned midfielder, I like the box-to-box players.

‘It’s just using your common sense as a midfielder, if someone runs past you that is playing alongside you and gets forward, you just fill in for him, and vice versa, it’s very, very straightforward.”

Parlour continued to praise Merino, saying, “He’s a top player, performing well for both Spain and Real Sociedad. At 28, he’s at an optimal age, making this a good investment for Arsenal.

‘With £25 million, it’s a solid deal, and their good relationship with Real Sociedad, especially with [Kieran] Tierney’s loan, facilitates this transfer.”

FIRM ISAK MESSAGE SENT –

Newcastle United have sent a firm message to Arsenal about trying to sign Alexander Isak this summer window.

Speculation has mounted over a summer move for the Swedish forward due to Newcastle’s need to balance the books for Profit and Sustainability Rules reasons, with ARSENAL reportedly interested in a deal.

It was no secret that the Gunners were keen on the man way before he made the move to Newcastle – and with boss Mikel Arteta keen to add a new striker to that attack – Isak suits the style of the club.

But According to the London evening Standard – When Arsenal approached Newcastle about trying to sign the Swedish star – they were met with a firm no from the Toon – they will not be selling the big man

The reports come after Jermaine Pennant recently urged Mikel Arteta to try and sign Isak this summer: “Alexander Isak would be a perfect signing for Arsenal or Liverpool,” he told Coin Poker.

“He’s got that stature of a big 9, which is great to have. He can finish, which we’ve seen at Newcastle.

“I think he would be an amazing signing and would take Liverpool or Arsenal to the next step by winning the Premier League.”

Isak was brilliant for the Toon last season and it is very easy to see why Arsenal are very keen to try and get a transfer deal done – but £115 million is crazy money that they should not pay.

He as shown no real desire to leave – so doesnt really want to be at Arsenal – did have his injury problems before last season and has not done anything at the very top of the game to be worth so much cash.

ARSENAL will surely sign a striker this summer – but it may not be Isak.

ARTETA ON SMITH-ROWE –

Mikel Arteta has wished all the best to Emile Smith Rowe after the midfielder left Arsenal and made the move to join Fulham.

The Gunners midfielder, 24, ends a 14-year spell with the North Londoners – becoming the most expensive academy-grown departure in the club’s history.

Smith Rowe joins the Cottagers on a long-term deal with £27m paid upfront plus £7m in add-ons – and could make his debut on Monday in a friendly at home to Sevilla.

He left ARSENAL’s pre-season States camp to complete his medical earlier this week before joining the Fulham squad in Portugal, and now Arteta has opened up and wished the player all the best.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was quoted on Sky Sports: “Emile’s commitment, attitude and energy every day was first class, always stepping up when the team needed him.

“He came into the first team and was instrumental during a difficult moment for us. He created an important impression, with his strong performances making our supporters proud.

“I’m sad that Emile is leaving us, but excited for him to take this new opportunity at this stage of his career, when he needs to be starting matches and playing regularly.

“Emile is loved by everyone at the club and leaves us with our gratitude, absolute respect and best wishes. We all wish Emile and his family well at Fulham.”

Smith-Rowe needed to leave for the sake of his career – and to be honest – ARSENAL have got a decent amount of money that has barely played over the past few seasons.

It is a shame that he had to leave a club that he wanted to become a legend with – but this is the right decision to make and one that reignite his career in the Premier League.
