Arsenal told to sign Martinez – Arteta encouraged to sign Hickey and Agent admits Melo wants transfer move in Arsenal news of the day…

Liverpool legend John Barnes insists Arsenal need a striker more like Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez rather than Eddie Nketiah.

Martinez is regarded as one of the finest strikers in the game right now and a player that has been tipped for a big money move in the coming window – with a whole host of clubs linked with a move

Nketiah is a man that has been impressing in recent weeks and there are many fans out there that believe that he should be offered a new contract to stay at the club for the forsee-able future.

However, Barnes has opened up and told Mikel Arteta that Arsenal need a striker more of the quality of Martinez rather than a talent that still has alot to prove in the game like Nketiah.

Barnes told BonusCodeBets: “Arsenal might give Eddie Nketiah a contract. Arsenal correctly feel they need a centre-forward who will be there week in, week out.

“They don’t believe he’s the long term forward needed to be in the top two or three.

“He’s part of the squad and he’s doing well at this moment in time, but it won’t make Arsenal suddenly feel they no longer need a striker. They may negotiate with Nketiah but regardless of what happens there, they’ll still need a striker.

“If they wanted him to stay, they would have offered him a contract. To be in the top two or three, they’ll need to go and get someone like Lautaro Martinez or a centre-forward who will be their No1 striker for years to come”

Nketiah is a striker that would be good for Arsenal to come off the bench and make an impact – or even to cover the clubs man striker. Martinez is a man that most clubs in Europe want – is proven at the highest level.

And if a player that would send a statement – but if you believe the latest reports it will not matter as Gabriel Jesus seems to be on his way.

Melo wants move

Arthur Melo agent has revealed that the midfielder still wants to leave Juventus this summer – with Arsenal keen on a possible deal.

Arsenal were heavily linked with a move in the January transfer window as Mikel Arteta wanted to add a bit more experience to the squad in order to help him achieve getting back inside the top four.

However – despite the reports The Gunners held extensive talks to sign Arthur in the January transfer window a deal could not get done and in the end -he stayed at the Italian giants.

However, Arthur has struggled for playing time in recent weeks, starting just two of Juve’s last eight matches in all competitions – And his agent, Federico Pastorello, claims the midfielder will now be looking to move clubs this summer.

‘In January he was close to leaving and joining Arsenal,’ Pastorello told La Repubblica.

‘He is too important a player to be marginalised, he must also think about his situation with the national team.

‘He was signed to play a different style of football, with Maurizio Sarri he would have played Jorginho, Allegri likes him but instead he wants to play with two more physical midfielders.

‘It’s a tactical question, and I don’t make the technical choices.

‘But it’s not in anyone’s interest to continue in this situation.’

This is a clear message to Arsenal that a deal is more than on the cards if they make the right offer in the transfer window – and honestly – he could add something different to this Arsenal side.

He is a solid midfielder that has top level experience – and a winning mentality – something that many of these young Arsenal players do not have right now.

For the right money – he could be a very good signing for Arsenal – but lets see if they renew their interest in a move

Arteta sent Hickey message…

Nigel Winterburn has urged Arsenal to sign Scottish left-back Aaron Hickey in the coming transfer window

Hickey has been impressing so much in Italian football over the past few seasons that it has been no secret that Arsenal are ready to try and make a move in the transfer window

The Gunners have scouted the player – have been impressed and are reportedly ready to pay that £17 million that the Italian side reportedly desire to let him depart the club

Arsenal were reportedly interested in signing Hickey before he moved to Bologna for £1.5 million two years ago – but it is believed that they have kept an eye on the young man and are impressed by what they see.

Speaking via FreeSuperTips, he said: ‘It’s a signing that fits the bill at Arsenal which I’ve spoken about plenty of times, bringing in young players to develop them.

‘Right and left back is certainly a position that needs strengthening in depth, and you want players challenging the first-choice players. If form drops or there’s injuries, then you step in and keep your place until your own form drops.

‘You want that competition for places in your squad. I haven’t seen masses of him only a few snippets, but some of the reports I’ve been reading.

‘One of his old managers suggest he’s a bit like Philipp Lahm, so if he is then it would be a great addition to the squad.

‘He’s only 19 so it’s a young age, but he’s had a lot of experience already which is incredible. That fits exactly with the model Arsenal have taken through this season and it looks as if they’ll continue that model throughout next season as well.’

We do not know much about the lad – but he has been impressive in Italian football and for that £17 million that he is on the market for – could be a real bargain
