Shock reports have claimed Arsenal have begun talks with former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri about replacing Mikel Arteta at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta came to the Emirates with a big reputation in the game after working closely with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and big things were expected after he led the club to that shock FA Cup win last season.

However, Arteta’s fate may now be riding on the Europa League, where they can still secure Champions League qualification by winning the competition should they get past Villarreal and beat Manchester United or Roma in the final.

And According to an exclusive report from Football Italia, Arsenal have now initiated talks with Sarri about becoming their manager next season.

Sarri has been waiting patiently for a chance to return to the dug-out but is yet to commit to a new project, but after Roma moved quickly to wrap up the surprise appointment of Jose Mourinho from the start of next season, he is no seeking a move back to the Premier League.

It is also claimed that Arteta is expected to be moved on at the end of the campaign, despite the club’s commitment to a long-term vision.

The Spaniard is adamant he has received assurances that he will get time but Arsenal’s lack of progress in the Premier League has raised alarm bells.

This is a stunning story that will shock many Arsenal fans that are massive fans of Arteta. But if you look at the overall picture at the club, Arteta has not done the job that many had hoped.

The club are well down the Premier League, went out early in the domestic cups and he is only still in a job because of that Europa League run, so he could go.

But is Sarri the right man?

Achraf Hakimi’s agent has responded to transfer speculation linking his client with Bayern Munich, while Arsenal are also keen on the defender

The Morocco international impressed massively during the two seasons he spent at Borussia Dortmund while on loan from Real Madrid between 2018 and 2020.

Impressive standards have been maintained at Inter since his move from the Bundesliga, with six goals and five assists recorded, allowing his valuation to rise further over the past 12-18 months.

Premier League suitors are said to be mulling over big-money raids but freeing Hakimi from a contract that is due to run until 2025 will not be easy, or cheap, and Arsenal know that they will have a battle on their hands to try and get a transfer deal done.

German giants Bayern Munich have also been linked with a transfer move for Hakimi and amid all the speculation, his agent Alejandro Camano was asked about reported interest from Bundesliga champions, while he didn’t confirm it, he would certainly not surprise him if it were the case.

‘It wouldn’t surprise me (if they wanted him),’ Camano told TZ. ‘Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and if they’re looking to sign someone it has to be the best player in his position.’

‘And Hakimi is the best player in his position.’

‘And Hakimi is the best player in his position.’ Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Hakimi as well, but they will do very well to attract him away from the team set to lift the Serie A title and compete in the Champions League next season.

Inter are not keen to let him go, unless an enormous bid comes in, and Hakimi himself has said he is happy where he is: ‘The team that attracted me the most was Inter and I saw it as a growth project,’ Hakimi told La Repubblica.

‘I am honoured to be one of the testimonials for the new club logo. I like it, as it looks to the future, a future we can build together.

‘I hope to stay at this club for a long time and I’m very happy. The coach is with us no matter what happens, he’s like a big brother.

‘Many of us were new and we managed to know each other better and then the Champions League elimination allowed us to focus only on Serie A.’
