Arteta told he would be getting ‘A very fit, athletic boy who’s selfless in his approach on the pitch’ if Arsenal signed midfielder
The type of player Arsenal would be getting if they signed Henderson has been explained by Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard.
Henderson, 31, has entered the final two years of his contract at Anfield, which expires in June 2023, But there’s been very little progress during discussions with the Merseyside club
The Athletic claim talks over an extension are still taking place but stress that Liverpool’s owner FSG have ‘bigger priorities’ to address, and the reports adds Those priorities include extensions for Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson.
And that has led to shock reports in the media that Mikel Arteta is very open to the idea of taking Henderson to the Emirates this summer for a bargain fee, as he knows he needs to add experience and leadership to the squad.
Now, amid all the speculation surrounding his Liverpool future, Gerrard has opened up and told Arteta what type of player he would be getting should he get an Arsenal deal done for the Red Captain.
He was quoted on the Metro: ‘A very fit, athletic boy who’s selfless in his approach on the pitch, puts everyone else above himself.
‘When you play alongside him you appreciate the job he does for the team and I think over the years he’s been developing parts of his game. His passing range now is fantastic.’
This is a rumour that has come out of nowhere and one that has shocked many in the media. It would be a massive shock to see Henderson leave Liverpool this summer, so we are not expecting the Gunners to get a deal done anytime soon.
But he is the type of leader that the Gunners need in midfield, so even for just a year or two, he could be a decent signing
