Arteta told to sign goalscorer – Agent wants striker join Arsenal – Gunners told powerhouse be great signing

Here is the morning roundup of Arsenal news and gossip that we think you guys could have missed today featuring Mikel Arteta, Ivan Toney and a big claim from Louis Saha…

Ivan Toney’s agent ideally wants the Brentford forward to complete a move to Arsenal this summer, according to former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew as speculation surrounding the big man continues.

Addressing the speculation surrounding Toney, Pardew – speaking on talkSPORT – lifted the lid on a conversation he had with the player’s representative regarding the attacker’s potential transfer options.

‘Let me tell you. I know Toney’s agent personally and I think he would like the boy to go to Arsenal. There you go, there’s a bit of insight,’ Pardew said.

‘I know that he thought that might be a good fit for the boy when I had a discussion.’

Pardew feels Manchester United could be the best fit for Toney given they have the ‘room to take him’ and require a proven goalscorer with ‘experience’.

‘I think of all the top clubs, the one that stands out for me in Manchester United,’ he added.

‘I think that might be the club that have got the finance and the room to take him. They’ve got a young striker, they need someone with experience and I think that could be the place.’

LOUIS SAHA CLAIM MADE –

Louis Saha believes Arsenal’s lack of sufficient goalscoring threat, could cost them the Premier League title this season and that will need to be addressed in the coming days.

Last season the Gunners came so close to winning that Premier League title for the first time since 2004 – but despite all the clubs quality players and impressie performances, they were pipped to the title once again by Man City.

The Gunners have been making a few signings this summer that have already improve the squad, but Speaking to Paddy Power, Saha believes the club need to act fast to bring in another striker. “ARSENAL don’t have enough goal scoring threat in the squad currently,” he said.

“They have good players, a good set up and the team has a lot of players capable of scoring goals from different positions. Kai Havertz has been impressive as a false nine but when you rely on Gabriel Jesus to lead the line, I don’t think he has the goal scorer attitude.

“He’s a forward, but he’s not got the killer instinct where he remains in the right positions and gets his 20-25 goals a season. In some games, that is what they need.

“They’ve only brought in Riccardo Calafiori who is a good player, but he’s not the one that’s going to take them three or four points higher than last year and surpass Manchester City.

“They were very close in the last two years and if they want to challenge Manchester City, they have to think how they can get six extra points compared to last year, with just one or two players.

“I see Manchester City and Erling Haaland have progressed – we saw that against Chelsea – and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a close title race again.”

PARDEW MAKES TONEY CLAIM –

Alan Pardew has told the likes of Arsenal that Ivan Toney would be a great signing for the club if they manage to complete the signing of the Brentford powerhouse over the next few days.

Ivan Toney has been in the transfer headlines all summer long – he has been linked with a move to ARSENAL – he has been linked with a move to every other top Premier League side and has even been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

However – it is the Gunners that are reportedly interested in signing Toney the most and now Pardew has opened up and claimed that he would be a great signing for any club that manages to snap him up this summer.

‘The thing I like about Ivan Toney is that he puts a statement on the pitch when he plays,’ Pardew told TalkSport

‘Whenever I spoke to my centre-halves, that’s the sort of player they always hated playing against: physical, running down the sides, aggressive, long arms, long legs, can’t get around him, he’s up for every minute of the game, he’s always going across the front.

‘I really like him and he think he’s a great signing. Where his destination is, we’ll have to wait and see.’

So much speculation on the man – so many rumours about where he could end up – but unless clubs meet that £60 million asking price that Brentford desire – he is going nowhere.

He could be a great signing for ARSENAL – he could offer that attack something different on a weekly basis – but we are sure that if Mikel Arteta wanted to sign the striker they surely would have by now as they have the wage budget to meet his asking price.
