New signing announces this is great deal – Arteta delighted with brand new arrival – Arsenal agree terms to sign defender
Turner delighted with move – Arteta opens up on Turner – Arsenal agree Lisandro terms in Arsenal news of the day –
Mikel Arteta has admitted that new summer signing Matt Turner will bring quality to the Arsenal squad after officially completing his summer move
It was announced just a few months ago that the Gunners had agreed to bring the American to the Premier League after he impressed the scouts on a number of occasions over the past 12 months
He has been brought in by Mikel Arteta to give the current number one Aaron Ramsdale a real battle to stay the clubs main man – and the American is very excited about the massive move to England
Before even kicking a ball for his new club, Turner has already endeared himself to the Gunners fans, after he was filmed refusing to sign a Tottenham shirt at his last New England game in June.
Upon his signing, Mikel Arteta said: ‘Matt is an experienced goalkeeper who will bring high quality to our squad.
‘He has shown with his performances in recent years in both the MLS and at international level with the United States that he is a goalkeeper who will give us added strength going into next season.’
The club’s technical director Edu added: ‘We identified Matt some time ago and worked hard to ensure that his transfer was complete so he could join us in time for our pre-season in July.
‘We now look forward to Matt joining us, settling into his new home and working ahead of next season.’
Lisandro terms agreed?
There has been some stunning reports which have claimed that Arsenal have won the race to sign Ajax star Lisandro Martinez
The Gunners had an indifferent season last year under Mikel Arteta and by the end of the year – they failed to get Champions League football and add another trophy to that cabinet
And it is no secret that Mikel Arteta is keen to improve a number of areas of the pitch this summer to improve his side – and has already acquired Gabriel Jesus – Fabio Vieira – Marquinhos and Matt Turner
But now it seems that the next player that is coming to the Emirates is gifted Ajax defender Lisandro – who has been linked with a move to the Premier League for weeks now
Martinez is a player that has the ability to cover that left-back spot – but can also play in the centre and move into midfield when he is needed.
He is a current Argentina international and helped his country win the inaugural Finalissima against Italy at Wembley this month – and he was an understudy to Cristian Romero and Nicolas Otamendi last year as Argentina won the Copa America.
Initial talks have already taken place with the Gunners willing to offer around £25m for the Argentina international – but they were told to up that offer and they seemingly have
It has been claimed that Lisandro has already agreed personal terms over a move to Arsenal and the Gunners are now ready to pay £40 million in order to complete the signing of the defender
— PL Transfer Centre Tweeted: “Lisandro Martinez to Arsenal is a done deal. Arsenal have agreed a fee of £35m + £5m add ons.
“Personal terms are all sorted after previous meetings. Arsenal will meet on Monday with Lisandros reps to finalise the deal. Media are slow on this one. #AFC 🔴⚪️ ‘
This has come out of the blues over the past few days – but if this report is true then Lisandro would be a great signing for the club
Turner delighted with move –
Arsenal have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Matt Turner from New England Revolution on a long-term deal
A few months ago it had been revealed that Arsenal had agreed a move for the American stopper after being impressed with his performances – but fans had to wait until the summer to see him arrive
Turner will undoubtedly serve as Aaron Ramsdale’s No.2, but the keeper is highly rated having been voted the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2021 – and there is big hope that he can push Ramsdale to another level
And after officially sealing his move to the Emirates – Turner has oepened up and announced his delight that a move to the Emirates is now officially done and he can look forward to that big step in his career
‘Obviously, New Jersey is pretty far from North London, but watching Arsenal as a kid, I fell in love with the way the team plays, and the values of this club,’ the 28-year-old said in his announcement video.
‘It felt like a long shot, but why not dream of putting my team’s shirt on one day. So, I dedicated my life to working at my game and being the best player and person that I could be.
‘I was able to realise a dream, and this is one of the best days of my life.’
There will be many Arsenal fans out there that have not been able to see the American play on a weekly basis – but he really is ready to come to the big Leagues and test himself
He may not get many chances to shine behind Ramsdale – who is now one of the very best in the World – but he will be a player that Arteta can rely on in the cup competitions and when the Englishman picks up an injury etc
