Here is a roundup of the top Arsenal news and gossip from icfootballnews featuring the arrival of Mikel Merino – the departure of Fabio Vieira and the transfer decision of Victor Osimhen…

Fabio Vieira has joined Portuguese side FC Porto on loan for the 2024/25 season – the Gunners have revealed this week after the midfielder failed to make the impact that many had hoped for.

After an impressing season before his move to ARSENAL  – Mikel Arteta shocked many fans when he got the club to splash the cash and bring Vieira to the Emirates in a deal worth £34 million.

Many of the fans had no idea who the player was – they had never seen him play the game and honestly – many were wondering why so much money was spent on a player that still has alot to prove in the game.

He put in some decent performances for Arsenal – but never really looked happy at the decision has been made to allow him to make the loan move back to Porto – The Gunners posted on the club website: ‘The 24-year-old joined us in June 2022 from the Portuguese side, and has made 49 appearances for us in all competitions.

‘The versatile midfielder, who developed through Porto’s youth academy, made his debut for us in September 2022, coming on as a substitute in our Premier League away match at Manchester United. Fabio didn’t have to wait long for his first goal, with a memorable strike in the following league game, a 3-0 win away at Brentford.

‘Last season saw Fabio guide us to early silverware in the season opener against Manchester City in the 2023 FA Community Shield, when he scored the decisive penalty in our 4-1 shootout win at Wembley Stadium.

‘A Portugal youth international, Fabio scored an impressive 14 goals from his 25 appearances at under-21 level for his country. He also featured in all of Portugal’s fixtures on the way to their 2019 U19 European Championships final, where they finished as runners-up.

‘We wish Fabio all the best on loan this season with Porto.

‘The loan deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes’

OISMHEN DECISION MADE –

football.london’s Arsenal correspondent Kaya Kaynak has explained why the Gunners have made a decision about trying to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen before the close of the transfer window

Osimhen has been linked to ARSENAL all summer long – he is a man that many of that fans would love to see arrive at the club and is a striker that would probably see Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz sit on the bench every week.

However – the likes of Arsenal are not willing to meet his massive £500,000-a-week wages demands and that has allowed clubs from the middle east to show an interest in the big Nigerian star, meaning that the Gunners interest in the man has wavered in recent weeks..

Now – amid all the speculation – Kaynak has explained why the Gunners will not make a move for Osimhem: ‘There’s little doubting Victor Osimhen’s quality. He’s a fantastic forward, and in a footballing world where quality No.9s are a precious commodity, he’s highly valuable.

‘It will be fascinating to see where he takes his next step in his career. I have to admit though, I can’t see it being at Arsenal.

‘The Gunners aren’t as flush with cash as in previous summers. When asked about if a deal the size of Declan Rice’s record transfer last summer was on the cards this time around, Mikel Arteta was pretty emphatic in saying no.

‘Osimhen will likely cost north of £100million so I just can’t see it.

‘That said, I do hope he avoids moving to Chelsea. I think the Nigerian deserves to flourish at a club where things aren’t quite as hectic as at Stamford Bridge. Very few strikers have succeeded there and it would be a shame to see him squander his potential.’

ARTETA WELCOMES MERINO –

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed what Mikel Merino will bring to Arsenal after it was revealed that the Spaniard has now completed his much talked about move to the Emirates.

Mikel Merino has been all over the headlines for Arsenal for the past few weeks as there has been constant speculation about whether the Gunners will get a deal done for the Spaniard before the close of the transfer window.

However – after all that speculation and rumours – Merino has now agree a four year move to the Emirates and becomes ARSENAL second summer signing behind Riccardo Calafiori.

And after seeing the deal get announced – boss Arteta has opened up and revealed just what the Spaniard will bring to the club – Mikel Arteta told the club website: “Mikel is a player who will bring us huge quality with his experience and versatility. He has played at the top of the game at both club and international level for a number of seasons now. Mikel will make our squad significantly stronger, with his technical ability, together with his strong and positive character and personality.

“As we all saw in the summer, Mikel is also a winner, with his strong performances throughout the Euros helping Spain win the tournament. We are delighted to welcome Mikel and his family to the club and can’t wait to start working with him.”
