Toon will do well to sign attacker, Newcastle target tipped for summer move and ASM transfer message backed
Newcastle told they will do well to sign Pereira, ASM issues transfer message and Ings tipped for move in Newcastle roundup…
Former Southampton star Carlton Palmer has backed Danny Ings to leave the club this summer, with Newcastle United linked.
Ings enjoyed a phenomenal 2019/20 campaign with Southampton and was amongst the top-flight’s most prominent goalscorers, but Ings suffered a slight drop off in both goals and games this season, netting 12 times after making nine fewer appearances.
However, that has not stopped speculation that some of the big clubs are circling for a potential transfer deal this summer, with Newcastle a club that has been linked with a move.
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are looking at Ings as a target this summer as Steve Bruce knows he needs to add a bit more quality to his squad in the transfer window
Now, amid the speculation, Palmer has backed Danny Ings to leave the club this summer, Speaking to Football FanCast, Palmer believes there’s a reason why Ings hasn’t signed a new Southampton contract amid interest in his services.
He said: “Why would you want to go somewhere and not be a first-team regular? He’s at that stage of his career now [where he should be wanting to play].
“For sure, he’s going to move because there’s a reason why he’s not signed his contract – something’s sorted.
“The only reason why you go to those places now is because it’s a bumper payday.”
Newcastle would be a massive move for Ings to make, but at the end of the day, could they really afford the man?
Allan Saint-Maximin is ‘utterly correct’ to publicly call on Newcastle United to invest this summer to ensure the club avoids another scrap for safety.
Newcastle United spent some serious money last summer transfer window and added some very decent players, but for some strange reason they were once again in a relegation battle that they should not have been in.
In recent weeks the Frenchman has spoken to several media outlets to sound a warning to the United hierarchy that his ambitions are much more than simply avoiding the drop every year, and the Chronicle Live’s John Gibson believes that the Frenchman is entitled to voice his concerns.
Speaking on The Everything is Black and White Podcast, Gibbo said: “This is a huge club with a massive following and there is always a base to build on but how often do we see that base wasted?
“That is what infuriates me.
“That’s not what I want to see – and you look at what Allan Saint-Maximin has said, he doesn’t want to fight relegation every year.
“He’s said he wants to see other players of Willock’s quality brought into the club but the point may be that we may not have Willock!
“Why should a boy from France, who hasn’t got the allegiance of being a local and therefore is desperate to see the club above anyone else, why should he or anyone else of that nature stick around if Newcastle aren’t going to make some effort to improve.
“A footballer’s career is very short and Saint-Maximin is coming up to the best years of his career and he’s got every right to make the best of it – and we, as supporters are sick of waiting as well. ”
Newcastle United ‘would do well’ to sign West Brom playmaker Matheus Pereira this summer, that’s the view of Magpies legend Steve Howey.
The transfer window is just a few weeks away and it will give Steve Bruce the chance to try and splash a bit of money and improve the squad, as fans do not want to see another relegation battle next season.
Pereira enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in the Premier League despite the Baggies’ relegation, registering 11 goals and six assists in 33 appearances, and the former Sporting Lisbon star was one of the team’s most consistent performers as Sam Allardyce’s side briefly threatened to pull off a remarkable escape.
United’s priority this summer will almost certainly be agreeing a new deal with Arsenal for Joe Willock, but Howey believes Pereira would be another good signing for the Magpies.
Howey told This is Futbol : “I think Newcastle would do well signing him because I think he’s a decent player. You look at the teams that get relegated and they always seem to lose their best players
“It is surprising that West Brom went down because they have got some good individual players and some of them could certainly stay in the Premier League with other clubs.”
Newcastle need to add some more goals to the attack in the transfer window and they will do well to sign Pereira, as he has proven himself to be a very effective Premier League player.
