Arsenal holding advanced talks, Defender up for sale, Willian signing a ‘no-brainer’ for the Gunners, Arsenal told to offer Auba massive contract,
Boateng up for sale, Coutinho talks, Willian claim made, Arsenal told to offer Auba big offer in Arsenal news roundup…
Snapping up Willian if the Chelsea forward hits free agency is a “no-brainer” for Arsenal, says Perry Groves.
Willian has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons if you are a Chelsea fans, as all indications suggest that he will not get the new contract that he desires and will be leaving the club.
And Groves believes Mikel Arteta should be in the market for the experienced South American, as he could be an upgrade on Nicolas Pepe and still has plenty left in the tank despite being 31 years of age.
“It’s a no-brainer, an absolute no-brainer,” Groves told talkSPORT on Arsenal’s pursuit of Willian.
“You say he’s 31, in our day you were probably coming to the end of your career at 30, 31 as an outfield player.
“Now, because they look after themselves, he’ll be playing until he’s 33 or 34.
“And if you look at his injury record, over the last seven years he’s averaged 33 or 34 games a season, so he’s not injury prone, he’s consistent, he’s got a winning mentality, he will buy into the way that Arteta wants to play, his attitude is good, he plays in the Premier League, so the risk is low and reward is very, very high.
“Is he better than what Arsenal have got at the moment? I’d say yes. He’s experienced.
“Yeah [Willian is better than Pepe]. Yes [Pepe has got great potential] but he’s not on Willian’s level of consistently delivering, he’s had his best goalscoring year.
“Willian would make Arsenal a stronger team, it’s a no-brainer.”
Gunners legend Perry Groves believes Arsenal should offer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a contract worth upto £500,000-a-week.
Now we all know that Aubameyang has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past few months as many Arsenal fans are expecting him to pack his bags over the next ten weeks and leave the Emirates.
It is believed that he wants guarantees that he will be challenging for that Premier League title, playing Champions League football and winning trophies on a yearly basis before he ends all speculation.
And Groves also believes that the Gunners need to be paying club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang whatever he wants in order to sign a new contract, with the Gabonese striker having entered the final 12 months of his current terms.
“I don’t care, as an Arsenal fan, and I know we’re in difficult financial times,” Groves added.
“If they said, ‘Aubameyang’s on £400,000-a-week, £500,000-a-week,’ it wouldn’t bother me at all because some players warrant it.
“Some players warrant it and he does because he delivers.”
Arsenal are beginning to make moves in the transfer window and are reportedly in the advanced stage of negotiations to sign Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho.
There has been alot of transfer speculation, and we mean alot, over the past few months about Arsenal trying to bring the Brazilian star back to the Premier League, with many reports suggesting that he was done at Barcelona and had no future with the club.
And Arsenal are one of the favourites to bring him back to the Premier League, along with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, who have both been credited with a possible summer deal over the past few months.
A season-long stint at Bayern Munich has only served to raise further questions of the 28-year-old’s form and fitness , and recent reports from Goal have claimed Barcelona are now looking to put another deal in place, with the Liga giants aware that they cannot incorporate another sizeable salary into their plans for 2020-21.
Now Spanish publication Sport claim Barca are still open to receiving offers from other clubs for Coutinho, and are insistent that Arsenal are leading the chase after holding talks to sign the Brazilian maestro.
We have said it before and we will say it again, Coutinho would be a fantastic signing for the club and one that would send a real statement to the rest of the Premier League, so if the reports are true, then fans will welcome him with open arms.
Arsenal target Jerome Boateng looks set to leave Bayern Munich this summer – with the Bundesliga champions “eager” to offload him.
With Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta seeking to improve a number of key areas of the pitch this summer transfer window, there has been alot of speculation in the media that he wants to spend some serious money to acquire the services of Boateng.
Boateng has pretty much won every trophy going during his time at Bayern, but there is a feeling that the German club will allow him to leave over the next few months and use the money from his sale to sign their own transfer targets.
The Bavarians almost flogged the German ace in January, when the Gunners were said to be keen on a deal, but he stayed put to provide back-up in defence, as Arsenal bosses were reportedly reluctant to seal a deal for the German defender in January due to concerns over his fitness and £196,000-a-week wages.
But with his contract expiring next summer the Gunners could still get a discounted transfer fee this time around, and According to Sport Bild, Bayern want to sell the defender this summer to avoid losing him for free at the end of next term.
He has still featured heavily for the Bundesliga champs this term, making 31 appearances at centre-back alongside David Alaba, so he has no intention of leaving the club unless he is forced out.
Look, Boateng is a proven top-level performer and has been for years, but he is coming towards the back-end of his career and a possible arrival at the Emirates would only be a short-term solution to their long-term problems.
But he would be an improvement on the defenders that Arsenal currently have at the Emirates, this will be an interesting one to follow.
