It has been claimed that Cesare Azpilicueta is close to reaching an agreement to cancel his current CHELSEA contract
Azpilicueta has been at the club for a number of years now – has won countless trophies including the Champions League and Premier League – and is a big member of that squad.
However – during the last summer transfer window there was alot of speculation in the media that he wanted to leave the club – that he felt his time was up at Stamford Bride and a move to Spain was on the cards.
Barcelona were looking to add him to the squad – they were looking to add some experience to the back-line and reportedly believed that he would be a good addition to the squad.
However, despite all the speculation and despite all the rumours – in the end Azpilicueta stayed at Stamford Bridge to try and help the club get into the Champions League and win some more trophies.
But his time at Chelsea is now coming to an end as Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that he is close to an agreement to cancel his current deal with the club.
He said on the Transfer Show:
“Cesar Azpilicueta, captain with Chelsea, won the lot with them, it looks like it’s coming to an end. He’s got a year left on his contract. But the respect is so great between both parties they want to do the right thing by him.
“They are close to an agreement to terminate that contract with one year to go so he’d effectively become a free agent and we think Atletico Madrid are ready to pounce.
‘We thought Inter Milan might want to do the same.”

Look – Azpilicueta has done everything at CHELSEA – he has won everything – and it was easy to see why he fancied one more big challenge away from the club last summer.
But if the reports are true and he is close to an agreement – fans will miss him but they will understand why he would like to go.
