Announcement imminent? Balague opens up on £75m man’s De Ligt possible Arsenal or Man United move

Arsenal and Manchester United have been told Matthijs de Ligt’s future is in his own hands but Barcelona are confident of tempting him to Spain.

Regarded as one of the finest talents in world football right now, De ligt has been linked with a transfer move to every elite club in Europe over the past few months after helping Ajax claim their first League title in five years and reaching the Semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time in a decade.

Arsenal and United have shown strong interest in completing a £61 million deal for the Dutchman over the past few months, with both Unai Emery and Old Gunnar Solskjaer desperate t to spend some money and acquire the players that would get them challenging for the Premier League title once again.

However, they face competition from Spanish giants Barcelona, who are reportedly leading the chase for De Ligt and are ready to complete a deal soon after De Ligt gets back from his holidays.

And Balague, asked about De Ligt’s future on his ‘Ask Guillem’ YouTube series, said: “De Ligt, of course, is possibly going to Barcelona.

“There’s been meetings between Barcelona and [De Ligt’s agent] Mino Raiola in recent weeks and also Barcelona and Ajax.

“They’re willing to pay about €70m (£61m), Ajax are happy with that. It’s now down to the player where he wants to go to.”

Now all indication suggest that Barcelona will indeed clinch a summer deal for De Ligt and end all speculation on the future of the Dutchman, but he has not decided where he would like to go and no agreement has been reached.

So if Arsenal and United offer the right amount of money to the player himself, and to Ajax, then they have a real shot of challenging Barcelona for a potential deal.

Playing for Barcelona is a dream for many young players, but making that move to the Premier League is also a dream for many young players from around Europe, as it is the best League in world football.
