Barcelona have made a huge transfer decision in the race to sign Athletic Club star and Arsenal target Nico Williams.

The 21-year-old has banged in seven goals and grabbed 16 assists in 34 appearances for Athletic Bilbao this season across all fronts and is a player that is attracting some of the games biggest clubs.

It is no secret that Mikel Arteta is looking to add some more quality to his attack when the transfer window opens up and is keen to bolster his squad with another winger – to help cove injuries etc.

However – Barcelona president Joan Laporta is confident the club can afford his release clause €60million (£51m) – Speaking to Catalunya Radio, Laporta said: “Economically speaking, we could commit to the signing of Nico Williams.

“Nico’s a player I like, I like him a lot. We are working with [coach Hansi] Flick on possible signings. Now we have to leave [sporting director] Deco to close the operations we are working on.

“Shortly we will be able to announce some good news with regard to the financial [issues] and we will be back within La Liga’s Fair Play limits. And that will allow further good news in terms of [signings].”

Staying in la Liga and joining Barcelona may be the best option – as it is  league that he is enjoying and developing very nicely in
