Blues could save millions with this deal after striker Batshuayi officially announces he wants to be at Chelsea
Michy Batshuayi has opened up about his future at Chelsea and left many fans keen to see him sign a new contract.
Chelsea were not able to sign any big strikers during the summer window, and that meant that Lampard had to bring back Tammy Abraham to give him a chance of proving himself at Stamford Bridge, especially as the young striker netted an impressive 26-goals last season for Aston Villa.
But it also meant that players like Batshuayi, who has been in the fringes of the Chelsea side for a while now, have been able to come in and prove themselves to the club legend and earn a regular place in his side, something the striker has managed in the early stages of the season.
He has been the perfect back-up to star striker Abraham. this season and has been an integral part of the Chelsea side, despite all the transfer speculation in the media suggesting that he could be ready to leave the club during the winter transfer window.
But he said on the Metro: ‘I have never been a full-fledged starter, but Chelsea is my club, that’s where I feel at home. It’s a club I love deeply.’
Batshuayi also revealed how he has matured as a professional footballer, adding: ‘When I was young, it’s true that I had some problems of discipline.
‘But what young person doesn’t? Today, I’m 26 years old, I can channel myself and I work at training and in the game.’
CHELSEA could save millions with the strike duo of Abraham and Batshuayi up top for the next few seasons, meaning that Lampard could indeed spend money in other areas of the pitch that need to be improved and added too, like the defence.
So if Chelsea do not decide to keep hold of ‘the batman’ beyond the end of the season and do let him leave the club for nothing, they risk more than spending a ton of money on a striker that will do a much worse job at the club.
So if he is happy at the club, then Chelsea should keep hold and maybe off him that new contract that he is reportedly keen on.
