Bayern Munich are reportedly eyeing up a move for Lille striker Jonathan David as they seek for a back-up for long-term Manchester United linked striker Harry Kane.

Kane, who cost Munich a pricey £86m last summer, has been in golden form for the German giants, Notching 61 goals in as many games since signing, he is without a doubt set to be their go to man up front for the next few years.

However, they are lacking a capable back-up in Kane’s position. Bayern do have the services of exciting youngster Mathys Tel to call on should they require them, but with his contract status currently uncertain, Bayern have had to start making enquiries into other options, with David emerging as the lead candidate

Having played in France’s top division for the last five years, and scoring 97 goals in that time, he has long been touted to move to a more challenging league, and signing for Munich would provide him with the more challenging opportunity that he so obviously deserves.

Ex-United striker Louis Saha recently claimed that Kane’s Premier League pedigree should be sought when United manage to bring in a new striker – Speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League odds, Saha has said: “It might be surprising, but I don’t think Manchester United should go after Viktor Gyokeres. I think he is a good player in an incredible run of form, even in the Champions League, but he won’t get the same luxuries as he does at Sporting.

‘Sporting are not under the same pressure as Manchester United, it’s a completely different animal. Right now United have Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee and at times the pressure has looked to be a lot for them to handle too.

“It’s hard to find players who can do what Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland can do, United need to find players that can really hurt the opposition and are proven in doing so and that’s a big task.

‘United have spent a lot of money and I don’t think Gyokeres is the answer, if you can spend £120 million on Harry Kane then they should do it tomorrow, there are very few guarantees in football but that’s what a club like United needs.”
