Beattie opens up after officially making summer move back to Arsenal
Jennifer Beattie has admitted that Arsenal have a special place in her heart after making a return to the club.
The 28-year-old, who is part of Scotland’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, has signed a “long-term” contract with the Gunners after deciding to make a return to the Emirates ten years after signing for Arsenal.
She joined City from French side Montpellier in 2015, going on to help Nick Cushing’s side win a domestic cup double in 2018-19, but has admitted that Arsenal have held a special place in her heart.
On returning to the club, she told the Arsenal website: “I think Arsenal have always had a place in my heart to be honest since I was a young kid. They were the club that gave me my first opportunity when I was 18, 10 years ago actually from now, and I just felt it was the right time to push on and have another challenge.
“I want to win the Champions League and trophies are what I hope to achieve with this club, and I think everyone is on the same page here.
She added: “Number one, I want to enjoy my football, get cracking in pre-season, get to know the girls, get to know the club again and then start on a day-to-day basis.
“Obviously, when you sign for a club like this, trophies are what everyone is looking towards, and that’s what we’ll all be looking to achieve.”
Here first stint with Arsenal proved to be a successful one, as she won the FA Women’s Super League (2012, 2013), the FA WSL Continental Cup (2011, 2012, 2013) and SSE Women’s FA Cup (2011, 2013).
Beattie has become a top-class defender in the womens game and her arrival back at the club will give the Gunners a boost ahead of next season, and their quest to win the League and push on for a European title.
She has grown since his move away from the club and heads back to the Arsenal a much better player, it is a great bit of business by the Gunners to pull off this deal.
