Big news: Striker signs with Chelsea and completes very late summer move!
Chelsea striker Shumaira Mheuka has signed a new contract with the club until 2031 before completing a season-long loan move to Scottish champions Celtic for the 2026/27 campaign.
The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the most exciting young forwards to emerge from Chelsea’s academy in recent years, and the decision to extend his contract represents a significant show of faith in his long-term potential.
Mheuka joined Chelsea at the age of 13 and has steadily progressed through the club’s academy system. His development has already been rewarded with senior opportunities, with the striker making nine appearances for the Blues since making his first-team debut in December 2024.
That debut came in Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League victory over Astana, providing Mheuka with his first experience of competitive senior football.
While his opportunities with the senior side have so far been limited, his performances at Under-21 level have demonstrated why Chelsea remain so highly confident in his ability.
Mheuka enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign, captaining CHELSEA Under-21s to a first-place finish in the Premier League 2 league phase. His individual contribution was particularly impressive, with the forward scoring 18 goals in just 19 appearances in the competition.
Those performances earned him the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award, underlining his status as one of the leading young attackers in English football.
Now, Mheuka will have the opportunity to take the next step in his development with Celtic.
The move to the Scottish champions should provide the teenager with regular senior football and the chance to compete in a demanding environment. Celtic’s status as one of Scotland’s biggest clubs also means Mheuka will experience the pressure of playing for trophies while potentially gaining valuable European experience.
This looks like an extremely positive move for both Mheuka and Chelsea. The striker has already proven that he can dominate at academy level, and another season of youth football would offer diminishing returns at this stage of his development.
Regular first-team minutes at Celtic could be exactly what he needs to turn his prolific Under-21 record into consistent senior performances.
The new contract until 2031 is arguably just as important as the loan itself. It demonstrates that CHELSEA see Mheuka as part of their long-term plans rather than simply another academy player being moved on.
