Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is ‘personally involved’ in discussions over a new long-term deal for Mason Mount, journalist Simon Phillips has told GiveMeSport.

Mount has become one of the most important players at Stamford Bridge over the past few seasons and is a man that Graham Potter can totally rely on

But Mount’s current stint with the Blues ends in 2024 and there has been some speculation in the media that the club are having complications on agreeing a new contract with the midfielder.

According to recent reports on the Daily Mail, the Blues offered a new deal to Mount, which the midfielder rejected because the wages offered to him were lower as compared to some of the new recruits.

It has been claimed that the midfielder wants to be put on the kind of wages that the likes of Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly are all reportedly on at the club.

But no it has been claimed that Boehly has personally entered talks with the midfielder about staying at the club – with Journalist Phillips claiming Chelsea are keen to see their academy product put pen-to-paper.

Phillips told GiveMeSport: “I’m told that Todd Boehly is personally involved in this one and he’s the one leading the talks.

Chelsea are keen to get it done, obviously, but they want it closer to their terms. It just remains to be seen if they can meet somewhere in the middle.”

This has not come as a shock that Mount cannot agree new terms with the club, he wants more than he is worth.

With all the players that will be coming in over the next few windows, Mount will not be missed if he does leave the club.

However – we are sure that he will agree a new contract, it just not be the one that he desires.
