Arsenal Aribo interest confirmed! Bowyer opens up and has transfer message for Gunners boss Emery
Charlton manager Lee Bowyer says the club are trying to get Joe Aribo to sign a new contract after reports emerged which suggested that Arsenal were keen on a transfer deal during the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old South Londoner is due to be out of contract at the end of June after failing to agree a new contract with the club and that has led to a lot of speculation that Arsenal boss Unai Emery was eager to offer him a contract and take him to the Emirates for the foreseeable future.
And Charlton’s hopes of keeping Aribo could rest on them winning League One promotion this season, which is why Aribo has failed to agree a new contract as the idea of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the country interests the young man.
But Bowyer is till hoping to convince Aribo to sign a new deal, despite confirming the interest from Arsenal.
He said on the Sky Sports website: “We’re trying our hardest to get Joe Aribo to sign a new contract. There was speculation earlier in the week about Arsenal and if that is the case then it shows we’ve done a good job with him. But it could just be his agent trying to attract interest.
“I’ve spoken to Joe on a number of occasions and he knows how we feel. We want him to sign not just for us, but for his own career so we just need to get over this barrier that’s been put in front of us. Joe is a good lad so I don’t think articles like that will affect him.
“He comes to me and I give him advice and if anything was turning his head or putting him off his game I’m sure he would come and talk to me about it. It depends what division we are in and where we are for next season so we haven’t been able to discuss any other players’ contracts other than the youngsters. We have to see where we are.”
