Brand New Liverpool signing sends first message – Slot told sign £100M star – Legend shocked at Liverpool transfer decision
Here is a roundup of the top Liverpool news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Jamie Carragher, Jeremy Jacquet and Elliot Anderson that you guys may have missed….
Gunners icon Paul Merson has given his verdict on Liverpool agreeing a deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, but the player would not move to Anfield until the summer and the pundit claims that the Reds need a defender now.
Despite the many reports that Jacquet was set to sign for Chelsea after the Blues made their moves to get a transfer deal done, Liverpool made a very late move on deadline day to secure the services of Jacquet.
It is believed that the defender is joining LIVERPOOL in a deal worth around £60 million, will sign a massive five-year contract at Anfield, but will not be making the move to the Premier League until the summer transfer window.
And after seeing Liverpool reach such an agreement, Pundit Merson has opened up and clamed that he shocked to see that the Reds didnt bring the young star to Anfield during this January window: “I found it extraordinary that [Jacquet] is coming in the summer,” Merson said on Sky Sports News.
“They [Liverpool] need a centre-half now to get into the top-four or top-five.
“It surprises me. It’s a good signing – as a Chelsea fan I’m shocked he hasn’t come to Chelsea, but I’m glad [Josh] Acheampong is now staying.
“I’m majorly shocked. I don’t know why for the life of me he’s staying in France until the start of next season.
“With that kind of money, you want him now!”

Jacquet is really enjoying himself at Rennes, he is playing every week and developing very nicely, maybe LIVERPOOL believed that he was not quite ready to make the move at this stage of the season.
But they do have defensive issues at the back right now and Jacquet would help solve this problems, so yes, many Liverpool fans will be shocked to see that the defender is not coming to Anfield this January.
SLOT TOLD SIGN ANDERSON
Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey believes Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson could be the Reds’ answer to N’Golo Kante, who would help the club win another Premier League title.
The 23-year-old Anderson has excelled since leaving Newcastle for the City Ground and is now firmly established as part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans for next summer’s World Cup.
Unsurprisingly, Anderson’s form has alerted a number of leading Premier League clubs with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool, who are all reportedly interested in a deal for the talented midfielder at the end of the season.
Liverpool did not need to make a move during the January window as they did not need to sign anymore midfielders, but there is talk that they could make a move at the end of the season and meet the massive £100 million asking price that Forest have placed on his head.
Heskey has been impressed by Anderson, and he has urged LIVERPOOL to make a move, telling aceodds.com: “From what I’ve seen I like Anderson. I like the fact he can get around the pitch. These pitches are big. I’m nearly 50 and I look at the pitches today and say: ‘I used to run around on that?’
“You’ve got to have someone that can cover ground and the way Liverpool play, they need someone energetic and someone that can cover ground as quickly as possible.
“Everyone is trying to find a Kanté who can get around the pitch. One minute he’s here and then he’s tackling the ball and then he’s running with the ball. That’s one player in Anderson who I think can cover the pitch aggressively.”

It is very easy to see why all the big clubs wants Anderson, he has been so impressive for Forest and a player that could become one of the best in his position, but he needs to make the right career choices.
If the big clubs are circling for a potential deal, then Anderson needs to make sure that LIVERPOOL, Chelsea, Man United and Tottenham have the space in the side for him to play, he doesnt want to move and then sit on the bench you know?
However – saying that, he is ready for that next step and could really get taken to that next level at Liverpool.
JACQUET SENDS FIRST MESSAGE
French defender Jeremy Jacquet has revealed that he is very honored to have signed for Liverpool, after the Premier League giants beat off Chelsea to secure the signing of the talented Rennes star.
Chelsea had been exploring a bid for Jacquet and appeared to make a significant breakthrough in their move as they agreed personal terms with the 20-year-old earlier in the January transfer window.
Jacquet has established himself as one of the most promising young defenders in French football in recent months and was heavily linked with Arsenal last summer, but in the final few days of the transfer window, LIVERPOOL struck a stunning deal for the youngster, worth around worth £55million plus £5m in add-ons, blowing their rivals out of the water.
But Jacquet will remain with Rennes for the remainder of the campaign before joining up with Liverpool in the summer window, and after the announcement was made, Jacquet has revealed that he honored to join Liverpool.
In a statement released on his behalf by Rennes, he said: “I am honoured to sign for Liverpool, one of the greatest football institutions in the world.
“It was also very important for me to finish my time in red and black on a high, at my boyhood club, the club of my heart.
“I’m approaching this second half of the season with the desire to experience some great moments with my teammates and the fans.”
IcFootballnews Says…
£60 million is alot of money to splash on someone that ha snot really done that much in the game, it is a massive risk from LIVERPOOL to splash this amount of money when they could have got Marc Guehi for just £30 million earlier in the transfer window.
The lad is very talented and could be the immediate replacement for Ibrihim Konate, who is out of contract at the end of the season, but playing for Liverpool not means that he has a whole load of pressure on his shoulders.
This is a risky decision from Liverpool that is for sure.
