Here is a roundup of the top Liverpool news and gossip from icfootballnews that we think you guys could have missed today featuring Anthony Gordon, Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson Becker…

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk says he is not concerned that his contract situation at Anfield will cause a distraction this season, as his current deal at the club ends at the end of the season.

At the very beginning of the summer window, LIVERPOOL lost Jurgen Klopp and quickly replaced him with Dutchman Arne Slot, who has a big reputation in the game of football.

That also led to all sorts of speculation and rumours in the media that Slot would be backed by the board and will be able to sign a number of players to help him play the kind of football that he likes, but so far, no signing has been made.

However – the club have not yet been able to agree a new deal with one of their star players as The Dutch centre-back’s current deal expires next summer, and there has been alot of speculation that he could leave the club.

But Dijk says he is not concerned that his contract situation at Anfield will cause a distraction this season – Van Dijk told Sky Sports: “I’m very calm [about my future]. The thing is, I want to play the best season I can again. I want to be important and stay important for the club.

“What happens? Let’s see, but I’m very calm about my situation. There’s no reason for me to think about something else because I have the whole season to play.

“Whatever happens now, Anfield has a special place in my heart. And it’s been successful. Let’s see what happens.”

Look, Van Dijk is a world class player that has been brilliant for Liverpool over the past few seasons – but he is not getting any younger and could seek a fresh challenge at the end of the season if LIVERPOOL are not competing for all the big titles.

Until that new deal is signed there will be alot more rumours about the player – but it will be interesting to see if he does agree a new deal as clubs will be able to make moves in the January window.

GORDON MESSAGE SENT –

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe says he is doing everything he can to keep Anthony Gordon at the club amid interest from the likes of Liverpool – as they reportedly seek a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Gordon has had a decent season with Newcastle this season and impressed for the Toon – but with all the speculation that Mohamed Salah could depart LIVERPOOL at some point in the near future  – Gordon has been linked with a shock move to Merseyside.

Newcastle have no interest in selling one of their star players, but now face a fight to convince Gordon to stay at St. James’ Park, and now Howe says he is doing everything he can to keep Anthony Gordon at the club

He started against Bournemouth on Sunday, and of the links to a move away Howe said: “I’ve seen Anthony come back in a good place. Especially this past week, he had a really short training period before that first game.

“We put him in as he’s a difference maker, it takes the younger players less time to get up to speed but I think this week he has looked back to his best.

Asked if Gordon had a difficult summer, Howe said: “I don’t know. I think that there’s two ways to look at that. The Euros will have been an incredible experience for him. The first time that he will have been with England for any length of time and I’m sure he’ll have learned, seen and experienced a lot from that.

“Sometimes, we all have this vision of the fairytale ending, you go in and help your country win the tournament, but life is rarely like that. Anthony will have seen a lot and hopefully use that for next time that he’s involved.”

VAN DIJK CLAIM MADE –

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has revealed why he decided to snub a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League this summer to stay at Anfield for at least another season.

Alisson is regarded as one of the finest stoppers in world football and a man that Jurgen Klopp very rarely drops from the squad – he is that important to the side.

However – there were some stunning reports emerge which have claimed that he could have been the next man to leave LIVERPOOL for the money that is being offered in Saudi Arabia.

However – despite all the rumours that he was tempted by a move – he ended up staying at Liverpool and now he has revealed why he decided to stay in Merseyside – Speaking to The Telegraph, the Brazil international said: “I have a contract and I want to honour my contract and finish my contract here or make a new one.

‘I am really happy here. My family is happy. I never got to the point where I was talking about wages and things like this [with the Saudis]. It was just interest. But when you hear about the numbers the other players are getting you are a little bit attracted. That is normal.

“At the end of the day, you play football for love. It is the thing you like to do, but it is our profession and we want to use the years that we have to make the most of it. I think I am open to that personally, but not now.

‘Now is not the time. I am really focused on the things we have here at Liverpool and while I still have my contract here, I will be focused here. If it is in the interest of the club to negotiate [for] me, then it will be a different conversation.

‘At this time, at this window that we have, I am focused on my job here and my life in LIVERPOOL.”
