Bruno Fernandes reveals ‘he wanted’ in-demand £63M star signed by Man United
Bruno Fernandes has dropped a potential hint that he would have liked Manchester United to sign Alex Scott this summer after selecting the Bournemouth midfielder as his player to watch in the Premier League this season.
The United captain made the revelation during an interview with Adebayo Akinfenwa for the Beast Mode On YouTube channel, shortly after collecting his PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.
Fernandes was asked to identify a player he expects to impress during the new Premier League campaign and picked out Scott, whose performances for Bournemouth have continued to attract attention.
The choice has inevitably led to speculation that Fernandes could have been interested in seeing his fellow midfielder arrive at Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.
When asked to name a player he feels could be in the next PFA Team of the Year, the Portuguese replied: ‘There’s always a lot [of exciting players]
‘There is one player that I really like and that is Alex Scott from Bournemouth.
‘Obviously you always know that the big teams get looked at a little bit more than other teams but I think what he did last season was great.
‘I think he’s someone that could easily be up for that [the PFA Team of the Year].’
There is certainly an argument that Scott could have been an interesting addition to Manchester United‘s midfield.
The 22-year-old has the technical qualities to play in a possession-based side and has already gained valuable Premier League experience. His versatility would also give Amorim another option when managing his midfield and adapting to different opponents.
Fernandes’ comments are particularly noteworthy because United’s captain will know better than most what the club needs from its midfielders. If he genuinely sees Scott as one of the division’s players to watch, it is a strong endorsement.
Whether Manchester United ever seriously considered a move remains unclear, and Fernandes’ comments should not automatically be interpreted as evidence that a transfer was close.
