Top United news of the week! Man United told to sign £300,000-a-week superstar, United told world class signings on way in, Willian opens door to deal, United told to sign defender like Van Dijk
Guys here is a roundup of Manchester United news from the last few days that we think you will be interested in.
Manchester United have been urged to make a move and sign a defender much in the mould of Virgil Van Dijk.
Harry Maguire has been partnered by Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones during his short time at United since making his move to Old Trafford in the summer for that mammoth £80 million, but the United back-line have looked far from solid.
It is believed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will need to delve into his transfer kitty in the summer to acquire some big time players, and even though they spent so much money on Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bassika, there is a feeling that he still needs to that defence.
And former Tottenham star Garth Crooks says United need another top centre-back to play alongside Maguire, similar to Liverpool stopper Van Dijk, speaking about Maguire in his Team of the Week for BBC Sport, Crooks said: “Earlier in the week against Chelsea, Maguire was the villain after getting away with an unacceptable challenge on striker Michy Batshuayi.
“Against Watford he wasn’t exactly the hero, but he played a pivotal role in securing a clean sheet for the Reds
“Two matches, two wins, two clean sheets and six points suggest United are building from the back.
“I still think they need another top-class defender to play alongside Maguire if they intend to be taken seriously as a top-four team.
“With an in-form Martial – and Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford waiting to return – United have the firepower.
Long-term Manchester United target Willian has revealed that Contract negotiations have been “difficult” as the club refuse to budge on their current offer.
Chelsea surprised many in the media over the past few days by completing an early deal to bring Hakim Ziyech to the premier League next season for a small fee of £37 million, with many believing that he is the immediate replacement for the ageing Willian, who has been linked with a move away from the club.
There has been talk that he could be leaving at the end of the season as reports in the media have suggested that Chelsea may not be willing to offer him a new contract because of his age, and may be willing to let him leave the club on a free transfer, with the likes of Juventus and Barcelona eyeing up a possible deal
But despite his impending arrival in the summer, recent reports have claimed the transfer will not impact Willian, and that Chelsea and the stars representatives are still in talks to try and agree a deal that would allow him to stay at the club for the next few years, but there is still some doubt that he could leave the club.
Willian told Esporte Interativo after last nights Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich: “Chelsea offered me two years, and they are not going to change what they offered.
“I said I wanted three more years. The situation is difficult because of this, I really don’t know if it will be possible.”
United have been linked with Willian for many seasons now and have just been waiting for that opportunity to try and snap him up, so with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to add some world class players to his side, he will now be keeping a close eye on the situation over at Chelsea.
Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has insisted the club will continue to buy “experienced, world-class players” this summer following heavy spending in the last two transfer windows.
United have spent some serious money over the last few transfer windows in order to acquire the type of players they need to improve the side, but the Red Devils hierarchy have been heavily criticised on many occasions for not bringing in world class players.
United have a decent squad but are lacking those superstar players they need to get challenging for major titles again, but with fans eager to see big time signings arrive at the end of the season, Woodward has opened up and admitted that the club will be seeking to bring in ‘experienced, world class players’ in the coming windows.
“This season is one of rebuild, with many changes to the squad – in terms of players who have left or gone out on loan; new players who we have brought into the club; and academy graduates that we have brought through to the first team,” Woodward said on the Daily Express.
“This process will continue as we implement our plan and our footballing vision under Ole and his coaching staff.
“Despite being linked in the media to 111 players in January, our acquisition of just one of them – Bruno Fernandes – is an important step in that direction, demonstrating our commitment to adding experienced, world-class recruits to the exciting crop of academy graduates that are at the heart of this developing team.
“We will take the same planned, disciplined, approach this coming summer.”
Former Manchester United forward Robin Van Persie says his old club should sign Edinson Cavani in the summer when the PSG forward’s contract is up in France.
Cavani has been in the headlines over the past few months AS REPORTS HAVE CLAIMED THAT CHELSEA ARE INTERESTED IN A DEAL, as they seek to add a bit more firepower to their very young attack, especially after news broke that he handed in a transfer request.
The Red Devils are desperate to sign a striker following the sale of Romelu Lukaku in lasts summers transfer window, but may not have the kind of transfer budget it would take to land one of the biggest and best striker sin the game right now.
But they may be able to offer Cavani a move to the Premier League in the summer, as he is destined to leave PSG and the Premier League is a challenge that he may feel like taking, even at this stage on his footballing career.
Now Van Persie has come out and urged United to make a move and offer Cavani a chance to prove himself at Old Trafford, claiming that he will still be able to land the club around 25-goals a season, He told Sport Bible: “Edinson Cavani. I would definitely go for Cavani.
“He’s very fit, he’s a proven goalscorer, a goal machine, he has proven it at Napoli, PSG and Uruguay. With him, if he starts, he will get you 25 goals a season.
“I’ve watched him play, I’ve played against him, he is like a proper goalscorer. He lives by scoring goals so I’d go for him.”
Look, United certainly need to add some more fire-power to the side, and signing Cavani would mean that Marcus Rashford would be able to learn from one of the best in the world.
