Sterling deal wrapped up after Chelsea announce summer move now confirmed

Chelsea youngster Dujon Sterling has decided to join Wigan Athletic on loan for the 2019/20 season.

Despite being part of the transfer ban this summer window, the transfer window has been quite a productive one for the Blues as a number of top players have signed deals and many of the talented youngsters have either left or got themselves a loan move away.

Frank Lampard has been able to keep a very close eye on all the talents that have been at the club this summer, and has made a lot of decisions about whom will be staying this coming season or heading out on loan, or leaving on a permanent basis.

And the Blues boss has decided to let Sterling leave the club to get some much needed game time at Wigan, the club have announced on their official website.

Sterling, 19, will now link up with Paul Cook’s Latics, following in the footsteps of Reece James, who spent the season at the DW Stadium last term. Wigan finished 18th in the Championship, 12 points clear of the bottom three.

The defender has come all the way through the Academy ranks and made his senior debut in September 2017, replacing Davide Zappacosta in a League Cup tie against Nottingham Forest.

He spent last season in League One with Coventry City, where he made 40 appearances for the Sky Blues and helped the newly-promoted side to a respectable league finish of eighth.

It could be a very exciting couple of seasons at Chelsea if Lampard manages to get his squad just how he wants it, but many talents like Sterling will now believe that they have a real chance to come back to the club and make an impact.

He is not quite ready to get involved in the Chelsea set-up just yet, but if he manages to impress at Wigan over the next 12 months then he may get an opportunity to impress the Blues legend.
