Chelsea have a strong interest in the potential transfer of Brentford striker Ivan Toney, according to Simon Phillips via Substack.

Chelsea have spent over £600 million on new players over the past couple of transfer windows and have signed some very good players – but they failed to get a new striker signed up.

That has led to all sorts of speculation in the media about who the club could possibly sign at the end of the season – with some big names from across the pond linked with a move to the Premier League.

But Jason Cundy, who spent four years at Chelsea during his playing days, says Brentford talisman Ivan Toney has the potential to thrive at Stamford Bridge.

Toney is enjoying another impressive season with Brentford, scoring 20 goals in the Premier League this season and firmly establoshing himself as one of the best in the League.

And according to the reports – The Blues are looking at him to alleviate their goalscoring woes.

Jason Cundy recently claimed that he believed that CHELSEA  should sign the powerhouse – Speaking on Chelsea’s YouTube channel, Cundy said: ‘Do we need a centre-forward? Yes, we do.

‘Ivan Toney has his issues off the field with what’s happening with the betting situation he’s been charged with. Let’s wait and see with all that.

‘But for me, he’s a Chelsea centre-forward. The way he is, the way he looks, the way he plays. He’s a Chelsea player.

‘We need a platform. We need a rugged, hard, clever, intelligent footballer up front. He ticks a lot of boxes. Plus, he knows the Premier League.’

There are so many players linked with a move to Stamford Bride – but there is no doubt that Toney is a player that Chelsea fans would love to see get signed.

However – we are not sure that the Blues play the type of football that would suit Ivan Toney – and he could struggle in that side if he is signed.

But it will be interesting to see how this plays out as CHELSEA do need to sign a striker.
