Ballon D’or deal? Chelsea close in on worlds best deal as Modric wants to leave Real Madrid

Chelsea have been alerted to the news Luka Modric has rejected a contract with Real Madrid and is looking to leave the club in the coming transfer windows.

The little Croatian was integral in helping Madrid regain another Champions League title last season and was also instrumental in helping Croatia reach the World Cup finals.

He was heavily linked with a move away after the World Cup finished with both Chelsea and Inter Milan supposedly keen on a deal, but having already lost Cristiano Ronaldo, Real refused to sanction his departure.

However, according to reports on Spanish publication AS, he has now rejected the offer Madrid have left on the table and is seeking a fresh challenge after becoming frustrated since the departure of Zinedine Zidane during last summers transfer window.

Blues boss Maurizio Sarri already has a world class midfield and doesn’t need to do much tinkering, but with reports Mateo Kovacic will not get a permanent deal, Willian tipped to leave for Barcelona and Cesc Fabregas linked with a move to AC Milan, there could be a need for Sarri to land a world class replacement.

Could Chelsea seriously complete a transfer deal for Modric?

Right now Midfield is not the priority for Sarri at Chelsea, as he is looking to sign a new defender and striker, but the opportunity to sign up the current Ballon D’or winner for a cut-priced fee may be an opportunity he cannot turn down.

Modric is getting better with age and is just the type of midfielder to sit alongside Jorginho and N’Golo Kante to control games for Chelsea, and he has that extra bit of creativity to win a game in the blink of an eye.

He could be a serious buy for Chelsea, it is just his age that could cost a potential deal not to happen.
