Smart move! Medical in process as Chelsea all set to announce smart summer deal

Reports have claimed Chelsea youngster Nathan Ampadu is all set for a loan move to RB Leipzig, as he is reportedly in the process of a medical at the Bundesliga side.

Lampard has been at Stamford Bridge for the past few weeks now and has been able to take a good look at the squad ahead of the new season, with the Chelsea legend seeking to use many of the talented players at the club.

But even though Ampadu was part of the Maurizio Sarri squad last season, in which he made five appearances for the Italian boss, he has not travelled with Chelsea’s squad for their pre-season tour of Japan as he looks to complete his temporary move away from Stamford Bridge.

And now the Sky Sports News website reports that the 18-year-old is close to finalising a loan move to the Bundesliga club, after Lampard said earlier this week that he would like to see Ampadu go out on loan to gain more first-team experience.

He told the TalkSport website: ‘Ethan is not here as we’re looking at the possibility of him going on loan for the season.

‘I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year, so I’m a big fan, but with the minutes he played last year, I have to think of the bigger picture and the interests of Ethan and of Chelsea.

‘The idea that he could play a lot of games somewhere is good for him and we haven’t brought him here while that is up in the air.’

Lampard has inherited a squad that finished inside the top four last season and also won the Europa League title, and although Eden Hazard is gone, the Blues were not a one man show.

There is enough quality to cope next season and although Ampadu has great potential, he is clearly not ready to fight for a first team spot and the best thing for him is to leave and get some regular game time.

He would not be developing much sitting on the bench and playing a game here and there for the Blues this coming season.
